Supvy Attorney-Adviser (General Counsel)
The Office of the Pardon Attorney (PARDON) fulfills the duties of the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) in support of the President's clemency power under Article II, § 2 of the Constitution. For over 130 years, the President has relied on the advice and assistance of the Attorney General in exercising the clemency power. Duties PARDON is seeking an experienced attorney to serve as General Counsel. Responsibilities include litigation preparation, coordination with litigating components of the Department (including General Counsel, Federal Programs, Civil and Criminal Divisions, and U.S. Attorneys' Offices), overseeing FOIA work, and providing legal counsel to senior managers on general law and federal requirements. The General Counsel offers high-level guidance to the Pardon Attorney and senior deputies on policy matters and serves as a supervisor to a team of attorneys and legal support staff, managing performance and projects. Salary $167,603 - $195,200/year Qualifications Required Qualifications:
J.D. degree, active bar membership in any U.S. jurisdiction, minimum of 5 years post-J.D. experience, U.S. citizenship. Candidates must demonstrate attention to detail, complex legal research and analysis skills, and the ability to interpret rules related to executive clemency and other mission-critical programs of PARDON. Ability to manage a significant caseload and work independently and collaboratively is essential. The Office values prioritization, high-quality work, and strong legal research and writing skills. Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in federal regulatory, privacy, FOIA, criminal law, federal or administrative litigation, and excellent legal research and writing skills. Education J.D. degree and active bar membership in any U.S. jurisdiction are required.
