Under general supervision, the Marriage & Family Therapist II (Licensed) provides counseling, psychotherapy, case management, and treatment services in a counseling center, clinic, or institutional setting.

Candidates can find numerous avenues to serve through various clinical programs and services within the Behavioral Health Services Department:
- Access and Unplanned Services System of Care: Provides Crisis and Non-Crisis telephone services, including screening, referral to appropriate behavioral health care, and support for individuals in mental health crisis through de-escalation counseling or referral for additional support. Includes prevention services for suicide, crisis, substance abuse, outreach to LGBTQ+ community, Q-Corner drop-in center, and Transgender Mental Health Outpatient clinic.
- Children, Youth, and Family System of Care: Serves children, adolescents, young adults, and their families (birth through 25 years) experiencing social-emotional and behavioral health concerns. Provides outpatient care respecting cultural values and natural support systems, addressing behavioral health problems in the least restrictive, most family-like context.
- Adult/Older Adult System of Care: Provides behavioral health services to adults (18-59 years) and older adults (60+ years), focusing on self-care, wellness, and recovery, addressing aging-related stressors, social isolation, and behaviors.

CANDIDATES HIRED MAY BE ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE A SIGN-ON BONUS, UP TO $5,000.
A new hire or a regular coded full-time or part-time employee in the classifications of Marriage and Family Therapist or Psychiatric Social Worker may be eligible for a sign-on bonus of up to $5,000, subject to discontinuation at any time.
In addition, this classification is scheduled for salary range increases effective June 23, 2025 - 4.00% increase.
This posting fills vacancies in BHSD for the classifications of Marriage & Family Therapist I (associate), Marriage & Family Therapist II (licensed), Psychiatric Social Worker I (associate), or Psychiatric Social Worker II (licensed). Candidates need only to apply to one of these four postings. This posting also creates a list for filling vacancies over the next two months. Applicants will need to reapply every two months for future consideration.

The duties performed by employees in this classification include:
- Performing intensive counseling, psychotherapy, case management, and treatment services;
- Participating in evaluation and treatment planning;
- Participating in group therapy programs;
- Cooperating with staff and community agencies;
- Participating in psychotherapy and case management with psychiatric teams;
- Interpreting social and emotional factors to clients and community groups;
- Evaluating new techniques;
- Referring patients to community agencies;
- May be assigned as a Disaster Service Worker (DSW);
- Performing other related duties.
Qualifications include:
- Education, training, and experience demonstrating ability to perform duties;
- Possession of licensure as a Marriage and Family Therapist or LPCC, with ongoing registration;
- Ability to travel to alternate locations;
- Possession of a valid California drivers license.
Knowledge required includes:
- Theory and practice of intrapsychic, interpersonal, and social pathology;
- Community behavioral health and substance abuse interventions;
- Community resources;
- Impact of illnesses on personality;
- English language skills;
- Computer systems and applications.
Ability to:
- Apply theoretical and practical knowledge;
- Conduct differential diagnosis;
- Develop counseling programs;
- Use psychiatric consultation effectively;
- Communicate effectively with diverse populations;
- Establish effective working relationships.
