Position Overview:
The Best Buddies Challenges and Breakaway Camps have a rich 25-year history serving as important fundraising, awareness and cause related marketing event properties in Best Buddies International portfolio. These events have brought Best Buddies mission to the mainstream while engaging heads of state like President Ernest Zedillo of Mexico,
Sheikha
Moza bint Nasser al-Misned of Qatar, Governor Gavin Newsome of California, along with sports leaders like Tom Brady and Chris Froome and Celebrities like Guy Fieri; sponsors like Rolex and Coca Cola all while raising awareness and over $100,000,000 in support of Best Buddies mission. The Vice President of Cycling for the Best Buddies Challenges and Breakaway Camps will serve as the most senior leader of the team and budgets to achieve the revenue goals for each event property. The VP will select, supervise and manage the sales and fundraising operations team and the regional development sales teams in Boston, California, New York and Miami. This position will lead the overall strategy and effort of building a modern community of individuals, program participants, community leaders, government officials, celebrities, and executives for the purposes of engaging them to participate, fundraise and sponsor the Best Buddies Challenges.
The strategy will be outlined and supported in an annual sales, communication, marketing and fundraising campaign with a dedicated operation, website, accounting, coaching,
customer service and incentive team in support. Success will be measured by the achievement of the budget goal per the team’s successful implementation of the following revenue generating strategies including but not limited to rider recruitment, fundraising, sponsorships, major gifts, and auction strategies.
Job Requirements: Must have athletic event fundraising experience and ideally be a cyclist with an extensive knowledge and experience in the world of cycling Bachelor’s degree and 15+ years of experience in development, sales, and/or non-profit development Demonstrated success in leading and motivating groups such as individuals, cycling enthusiasts, employees, team captains, company leaders and fundraisers to raise money. Must be exciting, motivating, and able to persuade people to commit to participate at multiple levels in the
Best Buddies Challenges and Breakaway Camps. Excellent project management skills, including leading, outlining, managing and prioritizing projects with multiple and often competing deadlines, and ability to work under pressure Proven ability to deliver high-touch customer service, and work with customer relations management (CRM) database systems (e.g., keep contact logs, conversation notes, development grid etc.) Proven supervisory skills to lead and hold teams accountable with timelines and financial goals. Able to work non-traditional hours, such as nights and weekends, and attend social events aimed at engagement, lead development and sponsorship sales Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and experience in database CRM type applications like Blackbaud, Salesforce and Google Drive Organized and detail-oriented with excellent verbal and written communication skills, especially superb public speaking skills Travel to key markets regularly for revenue development and to support all Best Buddies Challenge and Breakaway Camp events Job Duties

Development Responsible for achieving annual revenue goals across all Best Buddies Challenges and Breakaway Camp revenue streams Manage and lead development efforts and regional staff in developing an annual plan, sponsor grid, timeline and goals for fundraising, sponsorships, auction and major gifts Cultivate team captains and company leaders to directly support revenue growth for fundraising teams, sponsor teams and individual participants Work with Marketing, Development & Technology team on all title, presenting and or all major
multimarket sponsors in fulfilment of the
national partnership and marketing activations requirements Assemble, lead and assist each market (Boston, California, Miami) with an Executive Committee and monthly meeting to leverage support to achieve goal Travel and cultivate new development relationships Attend all major networking events or deploy regional teams to attend as needed in each market Handle stewardship and relationship management for select sponsors Marketing Work the SVP Marketing and team to develop a budget and annual marketing plan to achieve revenue goal Work with Marketing Team to provide content and to assist with key deliverables including the optimization
of marketing strategy results including but not limited to digital, social and web, tv, radio, out-of-hope, newspaper, Organize and attend the premier marketing activations for rider lead generation, recruitment, and engagement in markets including but not limited to:
Massachusetts California Miami New York Colorado
Develop, supervise and optimize the effectiveness of all grassroots direct recruitment efforts and provide regular reports on reach, lead flow and close rates Speak publicly (and train direct reports to speak) and present to various groups including corporate employee groups, cycling teams, civic groups, etc. for the purpose of representing Best Buddies and developing relationships Operations Lead and work in conjunction with the Special Events team manage the event timeline and delivery of an a Challenge and or Camp event that meets or exceeds all customer expectations at or below budget Lead and work in conjunction with operations team to implement and execute rider recruitment, retention, and fundraising strategies designed in concert with each regional development team and supported by the Boston ride team Assist in planning and guide execution of Alumni, On-Boarding and Stratification plans for fundraising participants for each Best Buddies Challenge market to ensure growth year-over-year Implement all rider recruitment efforts for Challenges and Camps such as Lunch & Learns, Kickoffs and Team Rides Collaborate with Special Events, RM, Finance and Programs teams as well as State staff on marketing and revenue projects. Human Resources Manage and supervise regional ride team staff, planning and timelines as well as facilitate weekly staff meetings to track progress for the Best Buddies Challenge events Directly supervises staff- responsible for staff development, oversight, and providing meaningful performance feedback, as well as holding them accountable for meeting all development and operational goals, hitting benchmarks, and following best practices and guidelines. Inspires and motivates staff by demonstrating personal commitment and integrity and providing proactive training, support and recognition. Responsible for all human resources related activities within the team.
Understands, follows and reinforces human resources policies in a consistent manner. Ensures that all supervisors within the team understand their human resources responsibilities. Works with human resources to resolve any challenges within the team and reports issues as they arise. Finance Manage the overall Best Buddies Challenge and Breakaway Camps revenue and sales and administrative department budget Track, monitor and report revenue progress towards budget
