For over 90 years, Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware has impacted thousands of lives across Delaware. We are the largest licensed provider of childcare in Delaware and the only statewide Boys & Girls Club in the nation.
Each and everyday girls and boys are left to find their own recreation and companionship. An increasing number of kids are at home with no adult care or supervision. Young people need to have a place in their community where they can go. Clubs provide a safe haven for youth, allow them to meet with friends and be a part of positive peer groups. Club programs teach life skills, conflict resolution and focus on the development of character. Clubs also provide members with positive role models and a nurturing environment that help improve decision-making skills.
Position Summary
Under the supervision of the Program Director, Youth Activity Worker- Sports Activities is responsible for development and implementation of sports and recreation programs for various age groups.
Essential Functions
- Facilitate a well-rounded, well-organized sports program which encompasses all of the Core Program Areas and follows the Youth Development Strategy and is designed to meet the objectives set by the incumbent and the Program Director. The program should be conducted in a professional manner, supportive of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Delaware policies and procedures.
- Assist in planning and operating club-wide activities.
- Assist in the guidance and discipline of club members.
- Assure that administrative duties are completed in a timely manner.
- Assist in developing a positive identity for the Boys & Girls Clubs in the community.
- Development, manage and implementing sports and recreational programs suitable for different age groups.
- Planning and organizing sports events, tournaments, and competitions
- Inspecting sports and recreational facilities to ensure they are safe and well-maintained
- Promoting the sports and recreational programs to attract participants
- Ensuring all sports and recreational activities adhere to health and safety regulations
- Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to get to different club locations.
- High School diploma or currently enrolled, experience working with Middle School and High School students.
- Demonstrated ability to organize and operate programming for youth in Middle School and in High School.
- Ability to develop a positive self-image in Boys & Girls Club members.
- Demonstrated verbal and written competency.
- Frequently lifts, carries or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to 25 pounds when preparing rooms for activities.
- Typically bends, stoops, walks and sometimes runs on a regular basis while interacting with children in various activities throughout the day.
- Ability to perform duties effectively under stressful conditions; ability to make decisions quickly and accurately with tact and impartiality
- Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions and communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
