The mission of Primitive Pursuits is to steward the health of our community by fostering life-long relationships with the natural world through exceptional mentoring and nature education. We have been providing nature connection programming to people of all ages for over twenty years and are excited to continue our overnight summer camp at Arnot Forest.
Position: Overnight Camp Nurse
The key role of the Overnight Camp Nurse is to oversee all emergency and medical-related care for our overnight camp staff and campers from registration to departure. Responsibilities include stocking the infirmary, reviewing health documents, checking in with campers and parents upon arrival, administering medications, maintaining the infirmary, treating minor injuries, and being on-call during camp sessions. The Nurse stays onsite at Arnot Forest for the entire season.
Employment Details
The position runs from 6/23/25 to 8/4/2025, with consideration for shorter commitments (1-3 weeks). Housing is provided onsite, including access to a kitchen and bathrooms. All meals during camp are provided at no cost. Staff discounts for other camps may be available.
Responsibilities
- Prioritize camper safety, emphasizing personal safety and emotional well-being.
- Hold the title of Health Director at Arnot Forest Camps for NYS Department of Health compliance.
- Organize and review camper medical paperwork and histories.
- Set up and maintain the camp infirmary per NYS guidelines.
- Manage medications, including intake, dispensation, and documentation.
- Provide First Aid and minor injury treatment.
- Maintain confidentiality of all medical information.
- Act as liaison with local healthcare providers and communicate with parents as needed.
- Support emotional and developmental needs of campers.
- Participate in camp activities and perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Must be 21 years or older.
- Licensed in NYS as a Physician, Nurse Practitioner, Physician’s Assistant, Registered Nurse, or Licensed Practical Nurse.
- Experience working with youth is preferred.
- Flexible, adaptable, and able to pass all required camp screenings.
- Available to work from July 6 to August 1, living onsite during camp.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Ability to lift 25 pounds, stand for long periods, and run on uneven terrain.
- Experience treating minor injuries and acting as emergency responder.
- Able to work flexible hours including evenings, overnights, and weekends.
