Job Overview
The Surgical Assistant plays a vital role by assisting the surgeon during a variety of approved surgical procedures. This position operates under the direct supervision and request of the operating surgeon.
Your Qualifications
High school diploma is required.
Completion of a Surgical Tech First Assistant or Certified Surgical Assistant Program is required.
Certification as a Certified Surgical Assistant (CSA) through the NCCSA or Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) through the NBSTSA must be obtained within two years of completing your first assistant course.
Minimum of 2 years of relevant surgical assisting experience is required.
Preferred certifications include: Certified (CST) by the Association of Surgical Technologists (AST), American Board of Surgical Assistants (ABSA), and the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) upon hire.
Must acquire Certified (CSFA) or Certified (CSA) certification within two years.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through AHA or ARC is required upon hire.
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification through AHA is preferred upon hire.
