The University of Miami Health System Department of Radiology has an exciting opportunity for a Chief Technologist to work at Sylvester Cancer Center in Miami. The incumbent is responsible for the day-to-day operations and administrative duties ensuring efficient workflow of Nuclear Medicine; compliance with budgetary policy; ensuring the highest quality diagnostic examinations; and compliance of State/Federal/Joint Commission regulations, department/hospital policies and procedures, objectives and philosophy. The Chief is accountable for the efficient patient throughput and 24-hr supervisory responsibility of department and of all departmental staff members scheduling, technical guidance and performance improvement. Performs all duties of Level I, II & III technologist. The chief technologist position involves performing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures/job duties as required of a Nuclear Medicine technologist at a level that will require no supervision of technical details. Supervises imaging services, including performance or supervision of tests, and daily management of assigned personnel. Assists in compilation of statistical data for departmental evaluation purposes. Contributions to the preparation of the annual departmental budget and development of administrative and operational policies, procedures, and regulations. Responsible for hire, discipline, and promotion of department staff. Obtains and examines the diagnostic orders for appropriateness to the type of exam ordered and any special notes or comments. Coordinate/manage scheduling and patient flow for interdepartmental procedures. Collaborates in the development of in-service training for departmental staff. Completes yearly performance appraisals for the staff and handles requests for merit increases, promotions, and disciplinary actions. For those locations that perform Bone Mineral Density exams (BMD) in the Nuclear Medicine department, the Technologist must possess a valid State of Florida General Radiographer or Basic X-Ray Machine Operator license within one year of hire. Education: High School diploma or equivalent. Graduate of a Nuclear Medicine Technology accredited program. Certification and Licensing: NMTCB or ARRT-N registered. Must possess a valid State of Florida License as a Nuclear Medicine Technologist. CPR and BLS certification required. Experience: Minimum 5 years of relevant experience. Supervisory experience preferred. Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes: Knowledge of business and management principles. Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations. Ability to establish department goals, and objectives that support the strategic plan. Ability to effectively plan, delegate and/or supervise the work of others. Ability to lead, motivate, develop and train others.
