Peabody Terrace Children’s Center (PTCC) is seeking a highly committed, organized Assistant Director with strong communication and interpersonal skills. PTCC is a member of Campus Child Care, Inc. (CCC), a non-proit child care organization serving Harvard University and the surrounding community. The Center is located in a graduate student housing complex overlooking the Charles River and serves an internationally diverse community of families with children from 3 months to 5 years of age. PTCC has 6 classrooms in addition to a beautiful art studio, and other destination spaces available for use by all children. PTCC’s educational philosophy is inspired by the early childhood schools of Reggio Emilia, Italy, where educators honor the child as protagonist, teacher as researcher, and parent as partner. The Center is committed to providing a rich and reflective experience for children that focuses on relationships, co-constructed learning, and values anti-bias education at all ages. The Assistant Director reports directly to the Director of PTCC and assumes the responsibilities of all aspects of the program in the absence of the Center Director. Responsibilities
include, but are not limited to: Manage recruitment, hiring, and orientation process for new sta as necessary to maintain or exceed required child to teacher ratios. Oversee orientation and training of all new employees. Provide supervision and support for sta in collaboration with the administrative team. ● Provide Reggio Emilia inspired knowledge and leadership. Provide anti-bias, anti-racist knowledge and leadership. Collaborate with the leadership team to provide and facilitate sta development that supports embracing the values of Reggio Emilia pedagogy and Anti-Bias, Anti-Racist practices. Assist in keeping organized records. Be aware of, and adhere to, the Massachusetts Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) licensing regulations. Act as the designated administrator for the Cambridge Preschool Program (CPP). Manage communication with the CPP team. Support PTCC sta with CPP expectations and engagement. Assist in building and maintaining community relationships both internally within the center community and externally with the city, commonwealth, and Harvard University. Serve as role model, and advocate for high quality early childhood in the community, both externally and internally. Assist in delivery of services to all families, including welcoming new members, overseeing classroom environment and priorities, and coordinating support services for children and families. Collaborate in facilitating community engagement through events including the annual Curriculum Night, Showcase and other opportunities for families to connect.. Requirements Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or Child Development and a minimum of 3 years experience in an early childhood program. Masters degree preferred. Schedule flexibility as needed to provide coverage at either end of the day. Minimum of two years of experience in an administrative, supervisory role in a childcare setting Employment Type This is a full-time, 40 hour a week position Salary range is $80,000 - $90,000, commensurate with experience and education.
