This effort aims to modernize DOHMH’s capabilities and data infrastructure, enhancing partnerships in complex health environments and improving outcomes, including COVID-19 response. The initiative supports larger efforts to rebalance investments and serve communities more equitably. The selected candidate will be employed by Public Health Solutions, a nonprofit organization managing the grant's fiscal and administrative aspects, while working under DOHMH supervision.
This position is grant-funded and will end in November 2027. This role is within the NYC Public Health Laboratory (PHL), part of DOHMH's Division of Disease Control. PHL oversees laboratory and clinical facilities, responding to infectious diseases such as vaccine-preventable diseases, STIs, TB, Legionnaires’ Disease, and foodborne illnesses. As one of the largest local public health laboratories in the U.S., PHL offers a dynamic environment where staff contribute to NYC's health and safety through clinical and environmental testing. With over 100 years of leadership, a team of more than 200 staff is dedicated to safeguarding NYC’s health by providing quality testing services aligned with DOHMH priorities and community needs. Job description: DOHMH seeks a Coordinator for Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) projects at the Bureau of Public Health Laboratory. The successful candidate will collaborate with PHL staff and leadership across all sections (Environmental, Virology, Microbiology, Quality Management, IT, Admin) to maintain PHL’s LIS system. Duties include: Designing and maintaining workflows and interfaces for PHL’s laboratory information system (LIS) Managing grants and contracts related to LIS projects Overseeing the implementation and enhancement of Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS) Researching and applying improvements to LIMS, often in collaboration with other divisions and bureaus Supervising staff conducting research and data analysis on laboratory test results to monitor performance and case confirmation Leading staff in generating queries, reports, and analysis programs related to testing data Developing and maintaining Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) ensuring timely and accurate reporting Keeping detailed records of activities Participating in quality systems as required by laboratory functions Qualifications: Master’s Degree Experience managing LIS systems Willingness to learn PHL’s LIS platform – Cerner (Oracle Health) Proactive, self-motivated, with leadership and teamwork skills in a dynamic environment with multiple stakeholders and deadlines Salary:
$152,440 Preferred qualities: Stakeholder engagement and project management experience Excellent verbal and written communication skills Strong analytical and reporting skills Experience with data collection, analysis, and interpretation Desire for professional growth and willingness to work outside comfort zones Experience in public health and multi-stakeholder projects Ability to prioritize in fast-paced settings with strict deadlines Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint Additional information: This is a temporary grant-funded position ending in November 2027.
