General Information : The Honors College is seeking a highly organized administrative professional to join our team as the Assistant to the Dean. This position plays a crucial role in supporting the Dean and ensuring the smooth operation of the College. The ideal candidate will possess excellent administrative skills, communication abilities, and attention to detail. The successful candidate will join a dynamic and collaborative work environment. Duties and Responsibilities : Provide comprehensive administrative support to the Dean of the Honors College. Manage the Dean's calendar and schedule appointments / meetings. Prepare and distribute correspondence, newsletters, reports, and other documents as needed. Maintain confidential records and files, ensuring they are organized and easily accessible. Serve as first point of contact for the Dean's office, responding to inquiries and directing them to the appropriate contact. Collaborate with administrative and professional staff to ensure efficient and effective operation of the College. Assist in planning and organizing events and meetings, including coordinating logistics and preparing materials. Complete departmental purchasing and travel. Conduct research and compile data as needed for reports and presentations. Stay up-to-date on relevant policies, procedures, and regulations related to the College and the university. Act as a liaison between the Dean's office and other departments and stakeholders, on and off campus. Qualifications : Demonstrated professionalism, adaptability and ability to exercise good judgement with strong decision-making skills. Strong interpersonal skills that demonstrate respect for others. Strong adherence to integrity and confidentiality. Ability to take initiative and work independently. Must be well-organized and have exceptional attention to detail, able to effectively prioritize and manage multiple tasks simultaneously, with interruptions. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Proficient skills in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook). Additional Considerations : Knowledge of JMU systems (Chrome River, HRMS, SPCC, Cascade, SA).
