Overview
TheSelim Center for Lifelong Learning (https://www.stthomas.edu/selim-center/) is recruiting a faculty director to lead its next chapter. The Center’s director, in partnership with the center’s program manager and other UST colleagues, provides leadership to assure that the Center’s mission continues to flourish.
The Selim Center provides high quality educational experiences for adult learners, with nearly 200 hours of instruction each year in single and multi-session course offerings to more than 1,100 students. In addition, its students enroll as auditors in undergraduate classes. The Center leads study-travel opportunities, including a partnership with the College of Arts & Sciences for the annual We March for Justice intergenerational study-travel trip. As a primary vehicle leading UST’s participation as a 2025 member of the Age-Friendly University Global Network, the Center’s programming also provides an easy-in avenue for older adults to engage with the University.
The position is a 12-month appointment for a 3-year term, with the possibility of renewal for another term. The annual time commitment includes fall and spring semesters as well as some summer and J-term work. The director receives three releases annually, which may be used to release teaching, service, and/or research duties, with approval from the faculty member’s department chair and dean. An annual summer stipend of $7,000 is also offered to cover summer work. The preferred start date is July 1, 2025. There will be an opportunity to shadow the current Selim director upon hiring. Note that planning for Fall 2025 programming will be complete before the new director begins, so the director will have time to transition and work on Spring 2026 programming.
The responsibilities of this position include the following:
In collaboration with the Vice Provost, Selim Center Advisory Board, and other campus stakeholders, setting the vision and direction for the next chapter of the Selim Center

Overseeing the Center budget
Working with the St. Thomas development office on annual fundraising initiatives such as Tommie Give Day
Assisting with marketing and public relations for the Center
Applicants must be full-time St. Thomas faculty with a tenure-track, tenured, clinical, or teaching professor appointment and a minimum of three years at St. Thomas.
