Director of Institutional Giving
on behalf of our client, an impactful nonprofit organization dedicated to fostering equity by providing access to arts, education, health, and economic opportunities in
Washington D.C. . Job Summary: This full-time on-site role is responsible for cultivating and securing individual and major gifts to support the organization’s mission and strategic goals. The Director will lead donor engagement strategies, manage a portfolio of high-net-worth individuals, and oversee key fundraising events and campaigns. This position reports to the Executive Vice President and is based in a collaborative, mission-driven office environment. Position Responsibilities: Expand institutional funding portfolio by developing strategies and securing funding from foundations, corporations, and government agencies. Forge partnerships to generate both restricted gifts and general operating support. Oversee the entire pipeline, including competitive bids, grants, agreements, contracts, reports, and sponsorship proposals. Lead corporate giving strategy alongside Senior Director of Development to build a sustaining donor base and institutional giving program. Develop and execute a comprehensive institutional funding strategy in collaboration with leadership and teams. Write, edit, and submit high-quality donor communications and grant applications. Ensure grant submissions meet high standards for writing, formatting, and compliance with requirements. Build and nurture relationships with foundation funders through networking and proactive outreach. Steward current foundation philanthropic partners and manage relationship-building efforts. Oversee administrative aspects of the pipeline, including prospect research, grant tracking, and CRM management. Manage a team of two Institutional Giving Managers, setting priorities, promoting professional growth, and ensuring deadlines are met. Qualifications: 5+ years of direct fundraising experience in the nonprofit sector with corporate, foundation, and government supporters preferred. Demonstrable record of cultivating and securing five- and six-figure gifts. Demonstrated supervisory experience. Proficiency with donor databases and standard office software; ability to learn new technology platforms as needed. Creative, strategic thinker with intellectual curiosity and a willingness to try new approaches. Compensation and Benefits: Competitive salary of $140,000 - $145,000 DOE annually plus benefits including PTO, Holiday Pay, Medical, Dental, Vision, and ability to participate in the 401(K) Plan!
