Job Summary:
Samford is seeking a Coordinator of Intramural Sports for Campus Recreation. This full-time professional staff member is responsible for the coordination of the Intramural Sports programs. This includes, but is not limited to, the scheduling of intramural sports and training of officials in a variety of sports. This role will include providing the Samford community with exceptional intramural sports offerings and being a leader on campus in recreation, wellness, and fitness education. The successful candidate will promote and cultivate an environment that values inclusiveness and diversity, engage in evidence-based decision-making, and promote student development and learning. This position will oversee student staff.
Job Description:
- Assist in the planning and development of intramural sports programs throughout the year.
- Coordinate the recruitment, hiring, training, scheduling, supervision, disciplining, and evaluation of intramural student employees.
- Monitor all sports at night to ensure rules are being enforced, play is safe, and student staff is improving throughout the season. This position will work with the Associate Director on the nights to be out at sports.
- Stay current with all sports rules for training student workers so they can be successful while they are officiating.
- Assist in the development and implementation of a plan for communicating, publicizing, and promoting all intramural programs.
- Monitor each sport facility and share facility or maintenance issues with the Assistant Director of Facilities and Reservations.
- Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Intramural and Club Sports on adding new sports for students to participate in.
- Collect and maintain accurate records of participation and other pertinent data.
- Maintain intramural recreation equipment.
- Provide night and periodic weekend supervision of intramural games/competitions.
- Provide leadership and strategic planning for intramural risk management needs.
- Assist in the development of specific, achievable, and measurable short-range goals for areas of responsibility within the Campus Recreation department.
- Attend and contribute to departmental, divisional, and university meetings, as well as special functions, as required or requested by the Assistant Director.
- Be an active and engaged member of the Student Affairs/Campus and Residential Life Team.
- Foster and maintain strong inter-departmental relationships to ensure seamless operations across various functions of the University.
Job Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Health, Physical Education, Recreation, Sports Administration, or related field.
- 1+ years in progressively responsible roles within campus recreation, park and recreation, experience with intramurals and club sports, community health, or sports management.
- Highly organized with the ability to manage complex operations.
- Strong interpersonal and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to work extended hours, including nights and weekends.
- Ability to multitask and handle frequent interruptions.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- High emotional intelligence and customer engagement abilities.
- Commitment to liberal arts education and the Christian mission of the University.
- Physical ability to navigate campus recreation facilities.
