At the Virginia Department of Transportation, we have something for you. Our Structure & Bridge Division is seeking a qualified Engineer (Wage) to join the Engineering Services Program area. This role involves developing and revising structural engineering office practices, details, standards, and specifications for inclusion in VDOT's Structure and Bridge Division Manual and other documents. Responsibilities include: Designing effective preliminary and final bridge and structure designs for new construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation projects, ensuring compliance with AASHTO and VDOT specifications. Preparing bridge plans, sketches, and structural drawings, and checking plans prepared by others for accuracy and completeness. Investigating the condition of existing structures and assisting in developing rehabilitation scopes. Analyzing structures for load capacity and performing structural calculations. Using established policies and procedures to develop and deliver projects in compliance with laws and regulations. Establishing effective communication with stakeholders and resolving issues. Providing technical guidance and support related to bridge construction activities. Performing additional duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Ability to manage multiple projects with deadlines and limited resources. Ability to produce detailed review reports. Knowledge of structural design specifications, codes, and regulations. Commitment to safety practices. Knowledge of civil and structural engineering principles. Understanding of transportation policies and procedures.
Additional Considerations:
Training, experience, or education in Civil or Structural Engineering preferred. Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) license desired. Familiarity with AASHTO's LRFD specifications preferred.
