Overview: The Mechanical Engineering Manager will lead a team of Mechanical Engineers within Redwire’s Space Missions business unit, overseeing design, analysis, development, fabrication, and testing of space vehicles and subsystems. The role involves guiding project proposals, defining system architecture, and ensuring staff skills meet project needs. This position reports to the Chief Engineer for Space Missions and is primarily on-site with occasional remote work.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Technical leadership across multiple programs
- Customer communication and interface
- Project oversight for structural, thermal, and electro-mechanical systems
- Strategic hiring, skills development, and resource planning
- Mentoring and knowledge sharing
- Risk assessment and mitigation for mechanical space sensor development
- Design reviews and adherence to design processes
- Proposal development and review
- Leading department initiatives and cross-sector collaboration
Ideal Experience:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in STEM with 8-10+ years of experience, or Ph.D. with 5+ years
- Experience in multidisciplinary spacecraft design teams
- Proficiency with mechanical design, analysis tools, and production methods
- Knowledge of GD&T and quality risk reduction
- Leadership in technical or IPT settings
- Experience with NASA and Space Force standards
- Active Top Secret clearance or ability to obtain one; US citizenship required
- Willingness to travel up to 20%
Desired Skills:
- FEM/FEA tools for structural analysis
- Technical leadership in mechanical design teams
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced multi-project environment
- Experience with Craig-Bampton modeling, honeycomb, and composite structures
- Program and customer management experience
