Vice President, Exhibition and Collection Strategies

GENERAL SUMMARY Under the direction of the Vice President, Exhibition and Collection Strategies, the Director of Exhibitions oversees all aspects of the museum’s exhibitions and publishing program to achieve high-quality, impactful installations and publications. The Director will lead the development and implementation of the museum’s program of temporary exhibitions, permanent gallery installations, and publications.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Manage the department, setting priorities, goals, schedules, and budgets for all sections to support the museum’s strategic and annual goals, ensuring resources and staff are aligned and goals met within schedule and budget.
Recruit, mentor, develop, and manage a team to achieve strategic objectives and meet current and future departmental needs in line with the museum’s vision.
Create a collaborative work environment through goal setting, feedback, and staff development.
Develop and oversee the long-range schedule for exhibitions, gallery projects, and related activities, facilitating projects through review and approval processes.
Ensure the production of high-quality museum publications within set time frames and budgets, collaborating with authors, curators, designers, and printers on various publications.
Identify and lead teams to develop, manage, and implement exhibitions and gallery projects that meet audience, artistic, and financial goals, ensuring effective cross-functional communication.
Lead the exhibition and publishing team, facilitating planning, goal setting, and strategic decisions.
Build project budgets at various stages, monitor adherence to budgets, and analyze financial data.
Contribute to the museum’s strategic planning and communicate strategic goals and policies related to exhibitions and publications.
Benchmark and implement best practices, developing new project management processes and policies, including software solutions.
Handle negotiations related to exhibitions, including contracts and fees.
Plan and execute statewide exhibition programs, coordinating with other areas for integration and consistency.
Provide expert advice on exhibition and publishing practices, maintaining relationships with national and international museum professionals.
Build and maintain partnerships with external organizations to benefit the museum’s programs.
Support and promote Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Access (IDEA) within the museum culture.
Perform other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE Master’s degree in art history, fine arts management, or related field. At least 10 years of relevant work experience, including 5 years in a leadership role. Additional experience may substitute for educational requirements.

Knowledge of exhibition and publishing practices, policies, and procedures.

Excellent communication skills for diverse audiences.
Creative decision-making aligned with organizational values.
Ability to build consensus and manage conflicts.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 and remote collaboration tools like Microsoft Teams.
Ability to work occasional weekends and evenings for events.
