Position Overview: The Community Specialist recruits new girls and adult members, while maintaining relationships with existing members. This role initiates and builds relationships with people and organizations to cultivate membership growth by partnering with schools, faith-based and grassroots organizations, and community influencers. The Community Specialist will report to a Regional Membership Manager.
This position requires daily travel throughout the council jurisdiction. Based out of Schererville, IN office, the Community Specialist will serve the following communities as needed: Kentland, Rensselaer, Morocco, Mountayr, Roselawn, Demotte, Kouts, Hebron, Valparaiso, Chesterton, Portage, and South Haven.
Duties and Responsibilities: Cultivate and maintain relationships with local community volunteers. Serve as a partner and advocate for each community. Initiate, develop and foster community relationships/partnerships with youth-serving organizations, businesses, corporations, schools, and houses of worship in specific communities. Identify and recruit Girl Scouts and local volunteers to fill key community-level positions, provide mentorship to new and existing troop leaders through the volunteer lifecycle, increase local engagement in Girl Scouts, and strengthen local Girl Scout events and activities. Facilitate new member recruitment and placement and provide the highest level of customer service as the first point of contact for prospective customers. Ensure Girl Scouting is available to all youth and adults by actively participating in developing environments that foster diversity, equity, inclusion, and access through words, actions, and attitude. Experience, Skills, and Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree required or equivalent relevant experience. With a minimum 1-3 years’ experience and demonstrated track record in membership services, sales and customer service. Technical computer skills in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook), customer relationship management systems (Salesforce), and social networking tools. Reliable vehicle and current insurance to travel throughout assigned areas and as needed within the council jurisdiction. Bilingual or conversational Spanish preferred.
