The High Voltage Engineering team provides preconstruction and construction/commissioning engineering for high-voltage facilities (35kV to 500kV) linked to renewable energy projects. We seek a dynamic substation engineer to oversee high-voltage projects across the Central and Eastern US. The role involves technical tasks focused on grid integration for renewables and building relationships with suppliers, consultants, and utilities.
This position reports to locations in Glen Allen, VA; Arlington, VA; Charlotte, NC; Houston, TX; New York, NY; Philadelphia, PA.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Design and engineering for Solar, Wind, and BESS substations (35kV to 500kV).
Oversee IFC design packages for collector substations.
Manage relationships with high-voltage contractors.
Review EPC designs for compliance with interconnection and standards.
Provide technical advice and review power system studies.
Coordinate with interconnection providers for substation design.
Support substation commissioning and testing coordination.
Opportunity for leadership within the engineering team.
Collaborate with real estate, permitting, interconnection, legal, finance, and construction teams.
Travel up to 25%, primarily in the Central and Eastern US.
Minimum Qualifications:
B.S. in Electrical Engineering with Power Systems focus.
3+ years of substation design experience (Physical or P&C).
Ability to read control schematics for HV equipment.
Basic knowledge of power system modeling and grid integration for renewables.
Strong communication and organizational skills.
Desired Skills and Experience:
Project management with HV EPCs.
PE Licensure.
Experience with engineering packages (IFPs, IFCs).
Experience with ETAP, PSLF, PSS/E, relay testing, SCADA systems.

The starting salary range is $87,000 to $104,550 annually, with potential bonuses and comprehensive benefits, including health, dental, vision, 401(k), paid time off, and more. Compensation may vary based on experience and market factors. Employment is at-will, with the right to modify compensation and benefits as needed.
