Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic – Diesel Certified
📍 Imlay City, MI | 🕒 Full-Time | 💵 $25–$32.50/hr (Based on experience and certifications)
Are you a skilled Heavy Equipment Mechanic with a strong background in diesel engines, hydraulics, and electrical diagnostics ? We’re hiring a Diesel-Certified Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic to join a growing infrastructure services provider delivering innovative roadway preservation solutions across the Midwest.
About the Role
As a Heavy Duty Equipment Mechanic , you’ll work in both shop and field settings to ensure the optimal performance and safety of construction equipment used in roadway maintenance. You’ll support everything from preventative maintenance to advanced diagnostics on a wide range of machinery including:
- Pavers, rollers, skid steers, dump trucks, oil distributors, chippers, pickup trucks, and more
This is a critical, hands-on position where your expertise directly impacts jobsite productivity and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose and repair diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical/electronic systems, brake components, suspensions, and transmissions
- Perform scheduled and emergency maintenance across a diverse fleet of heavy-duty and light-duty equipment
- Travel to job sites as needed for field service calls
- Accurately log services performed, parts used, and time entries via shop maintenance systems
- Interpret equipment manuals, wiring diagrams, and use diagnostic tools such as CAT ET and Cummins INSITE
- Collaborate with field crews and leadership to ensure equipment readiness
- Follow all safety protocols and participate in regular safety briefings
- Perform welding, cutting, and basic fabrication work when necessary
Qualifications & Requirements
Education:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Completion of a 2-year technical training program or equivalent experience preferred
Experience:
- Minimum 3 years of experience in heavy construction or road maintenance equipment service
- Strong background in diesel engine systems and electronic diagnostics
Certifications:
- Diesel Engine Certification required (e.g., ASE T2 or equivalent)
- Valid Driver’s License required; CDL Class A or B preferred or willingness to obtain
- Welding certification is a plus
Skills & Competencies
- Strong troubleshooting ability across diesel, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems
- Comfortable using diagnostic software and hand/power tools
- Knowledge of OSHA standards and DOT compliance
- Proactive, self-motivated, and able to work with minimal supervision
- Effective communicator and strong team player
- Basic computer skills (Excel, email, maintenance tracking systems)
Working Conditions
- Outdoor and jobsite environments with exposure to all weather conditions
- Frequent physical activity: lifting up to 70 lbs, climbing under/onto machinery, crouching, and standing for extended periods
- Ability to work flexible shifts including nights, weekends, and overtime
- Must pass pre-employment drug screening and background check
Compensation & Benefits
- $25.00–$32.50/hour , based on experience and certifications
