The WV Cancer Institute at West Virginia University is currently accepting applications for a Histotechnologist position. About the Opportunity The WVU Cancer Institute is seeking a skilled and detail oriented Histotechnologist to join our team. This role involves working closely with the Tissue Bank and Clinical Research Units to support our research and diagnostic efforts. The successful candidate will be responsible for the preparation, processing, and analysis of histological samples. What You'll Do Perform routine and specialized histological techniques, including tissue fixation, processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining. Prepare and maintain histological specimens for microscopic examination and diagnosis. Operate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring proper calibration and performance. Collaborate with the Tissue Bank and Clinical Research Units to provide high-quality histological services. Ensure accurate documentation and labeling of specimens and maintain detailed records of laboratory procedures. Adhere to standard operating procedures and safety guidelines to maintain a clean and safe laboratory environment. Participate in quality control and quality assurance activities to ensure the accuracy and reliability of histological results. Assist in the development and optimization of new histological techniques and protocols. Stay current with advancements in histology and participate in continuing education and professional development.
Pay Grade: 17 Qualifications
Associate degree in Histotechnology or a related field, Bachelor's degree preferred A minimum of two (2) years of experience involving: Experience in a histology laboratory, preferably in a clinical or research setting.
Any equivalent combination of related education and/or experience will be considered. All qualifications must be met by the time of employment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Strong understanding of epidemiologic principles, study design, and statistical analysis. Proficiency in histological techniques, including tissue processing, embedding, sectioning, and staining. Strong attention to detail and excellent manual dexterity. Good organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and priorities. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders. Commitment to advancing the mission and goals of the WVU Cancer Institute.
Preferred Qualifications Certification as a Histotechnician (HT) or Histotechnologist (HTL) through the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) is preferred.
