MAIN FUNCTION:Under the direction of the Support Services Manager and within established organizational and departmental policies and procedures, responsible for performing a variety of duties, including transporting patients, and sorting, processing and delivering mail and packages.
This position is part of the 1199SEIU Bargaining Unit at Cooley Dickinson Hospital.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Non-Violent Crisis Intervention training (MOAB or equivalent) required within three (3) months of hire
Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills required
Demonstrated basic computer skills required
Demonstrated good judgment required; demonstrated ability to interpret and adhere to both verbal and written instructions required
Three (3) to six (6) months Transporter experience preferred
Availability to work weekends, and holidays required

SHIFT:
Every other weekend 8:00am-4:30pm
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Use proper body mechanics to transport patients and equipment to all areas of the hospital. Transport and lift bodies into the morgue.
Transport blood to the floors as requested.
With, or without, nursing personnel, transfer patients onto and/or off beds, wheelchairs, and stretchers during patient transport.
Change oxygen tanks and maintain proper number of oxygen tanks in each unit.
Ensure proper IV positioning; make minor body adjustments and reset IV accordingly during patient transport.
Monitor patients requiring one to one observation, reporting change(s) in conditions and needs, and care as supervisor indicates.
Respond to security and life safety issues as needed.
Process incoming and outgoing mail and packages using a variety of delivery companies including, but not limited to, United States Postal Service, United Parcel Service and Federal Express.
Process and track packages using UPS computer.
Process outgoing letters using an automated mailing machine. Maintain related records and track charges by printing reports.
Prepare special mailings with Postal Service, i.e. First Class, Pre-sort and Third-Class Bulk Mailings. Complete necessary forms, sort and set up mailing for proper classification.
Sort interoffice memoranda and doctors reports and distribute them to the proper locations.
Adhere to strict confidentiality guidelines.
Maintain established hospital and departmental policies and procedures, objectives, confidentiality, quality improvement program, compliance, safety, infection control, and environmental standards.
Maintain professional growth and development through attendance at seminars, workshops, conferences or in-services, professional affiliations, or journals to stay abreast of current trends in field of expertise.
Meet annual competency and retraining requirements.
Attend meetings as required.
