Job Overview
WSP is seeking a Certified Structural Steel Welding (AWS CWI) and Coatings (AMPP / NACE / SSPC Level II) Inspector based in New Mexico. This technical position involves travel within the US and sometimes to Canada. Candidates should have experience in structural steel and bridge inspections, familiarity with AWS Codes D1.1 and D1.5, and be available for immediate long-term employment. Physical stamina is required.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform quality assurance activities in shop and field including dimensional checks, welding inspection, NDT, coatings, and material testing reports aligned with contract drawings and standards.
- Monitor surface preparation, cleanliness, environmental conditions, paint mixing, and application for compliance.
- Communicate with owners, fabricators, engineers, NDT technicians, and coating professionals.
- Write daily digital shop/field reports.
- Participate in safety meetings.
Candidate Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
- High School Diploma.
- At least 9 years of relevant post-education experience, including construction inspection.
- NACE / AMPP or SSPC Coatings Certification Level II.
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI).
- Dependability, honesty, integrity.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Windows.
- Strong communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and in teams.
- Decision-making skills.
- Willingness to travel, including overnight stays.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Sufficient physical stamina for outdoor and indoor work under various conditions, including climbing, bending, crawling, lifting 25+ lbs.
- Ability to pass physical, background check, and maintain a clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in metallizing and related inspections.
- Experience in QA/QC during steel fabrication.
- ASNT NDT Level II or III certifications (VT, UT, MT, RT).
- ICC Bolting certification.
