Job Summary
Performs duties necessary to treat patients in accordance with the physician's order and departmental policy. Works independently in all acute and critical care settings. Consults with physicians and other personnel and makes recommendations on treatment as appropriate.Essential Functions

Acts independently to perform respiratory therapy general and critical care procedures in accordance with the physician's order, departmental policy, and Respiratory Care guidelines or protocols.
Initiates, monitors and manages patients requiring all types of invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation.
Initiates and manages all types of airways and associated equipment.
Analyzes and reports results accurately.
Documents and charges for all respiratory care procedures and tasks and provides patient and family education as appropriate.
Communicates with all members of the healthcare team to include students and nurse shadows. Provides an accurate and complete report. Makes recommendations as appropriate. Communicates well with supervisors, coordinators, or those acting in lieu of the above.
Adheres to infection control and quality initiatives. Performs appropriate cleaning/disinfection and sterilization of equipment between patients as indicated by equipment type and isolation status.
Acts as a good steward of resources, including supplies, time/productivity, etc.
Conducts inspections and support preventative maintenance programs of chambers to ensure safe and efficient operation of equipment and associated physical support systems.
Assists with departmental compliance with all regulatory requirements. Suggests necessary HBO safety policies and incorporated new safety procedures as necessary. Keeps documentation current and accurate, including accurate documentation of consumption of products and charges.
Works with all other Hyperbaric officers to coordinate the care of any referral of patients to the CVI program. Coordinates process for continuity of care between inpatient and outpatient HBO services.
Responsible for documenting all HBO health records into the EMR for the wound care department. Also understands the coding and compliance guidelines for HBO treatment.
Works closely with infection control, Hazardous material, Hospital Safety Director, Facilities Manager, and Wound Care/HBO Clinical Manager to ensure HBO department is in compliance with the health care facilities policies and procedures, NFPA 99 and all other regulatory agencies.
Assists with the education of patients, families and staff on hyperbaric procedures.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory/Management Responsibilities
This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director or executive.
Minimum Requirements
Education - Associate degree. Graduate of a Respiratory Care Program by an accredited school
Experience - No experience defined.
In Lieu Of
In lieu of associate degree will consider diploma and/or equivalent experience.
Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses
Respiratory Care Practitioner license in the state in which work is performed.
Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
BLS
NBRC (credentials must be maintained)
Other certifications dependent on work unit: NRP, PALS, ACLS, NPS
ACLS required within the first year for adult care areas
NRP and PALS required in the Children's Hospital prior to working independently in the NICU and PICU
Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT) or Certified Hyperbaric Specialist (CHS) certification preferred or acquired within the first 12 months post hire
Pre or post hire completion of Introductory Hyperbaric Training Course, as approved by the National Board of Diving and Hyperbaric Medical Technology, Department of Defense, American College of Hyperbaric Medicine or Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society is required.
In order to complete the Introductory Hyperbaric Training Course must be one of the following: Military: Corpsman or Medical Services Specialist, EMT or Paramedic, RN, LPN, LVN, Certified Hyperbaric Technologist (CHT), Certified Hyperbaric Specialist (CHS), Certified Hyperbaric Wound Specialist (CHWS), Physical Therapist (PT) or Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA), Certified Hyperbaric RN, CMA or RMA, Registered Respiratory Therapist - RRT, Or, completion of Hyperbaric Training from U.S. Department of Defense (DOD): e.g., US Navy, Army or Coast Guard Diver (1st Class, 2nd Class or Master designation) or, US Air Force Aerospace Physiology Specialist.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Skills necessary to treat patients of all ages to include infants, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
Ability to obtain blood gasses from all sites.
