Bilingual Preferred
Harbor House is seeking a highly skilled IFP Attorney to provide legal advice and/or direct legal representation to survivors of domestic, dating, and sexual violence and stalking in injunction for protection proceedings.
Specific Duties
Provide legal advice and/or direct legal representation to survivors of domestic, dating, and sexual violence and stalking in injunction for protection proceedings. Conduct extensive outreach in the service area to develop collaborative partnerships. Complete monthly, quarterly, and other reports as required. Participate in trainings to meet continuing education and certification requirements. Complete all other tasks assigned by the Supervising Attorney or required by the grant.
Education and Training:
JD from an accredited law school
Other Job Requirements:
Ability to read, write and speak fluently in both English and Spanish preferred. Florida licensed attorney in good standing with no prior Florida Bar disciplinary proceedings that resulted in the imposition of any penalty. Must have a strong understanding of and commitment to the philosophy of the battered women's movement and knowledge of the feminist analysis of battering, as well as the dynamics of domestic violence, knowledge of root causes of violence against women and oppressed groups.
Experience:
2 years of litigation experience is preferred, ideally representing survivors of domestic, dating, and sexual violence, and stalking in injunction for protection proceedings and other civil legal matters, or prosecuting batterers in criminal proceedings. Providing direct legal representations while a law student in a supervised law school legal clinic or internship may also be included as litigation experience.
