Job Description Job Title: Pharmacy Technician Certified Inpatient Profession: Pharmacy Tech Certified Inpatient Specialty: - Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Other (5x8 Hr) Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: 1 year of hospital or retail pharmacy experience, or completion of an accredited technician training course may substitute for experience License: Active Pharmacy Technician License (Kansas), Certification (Colorado) or Certification (Utah) Certifications: Certified Pharmacy Tech (National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board) Must-Have: Working knowledge of computer systems
Description: Assist pharmacists in promoting an organized and functional pharmacy service. Prepare medications for dispensing and maintain records. Alert pharmacy leadership of immediate problems requiring corrective action in a timely manner. Screen nursing and physician inquiries and phone calls by directing to the appropriate pharmacist to ensure accurate and timely communication. Perform special projects, including the training of new technicians and overseeing their activities, and other activities as assigned to increase and improve the level of service, skill level, and productivity. Attain professional growth by attending or participating in a minimum of 10 hours of continuing education annually. Maintain patient and other records using pharmacy computers and manual systems to ensure timely and accurate patient billings and compliance with regulatory agencies. Facilitate maintenance of adequate supplies by logging needs. Process daily IV slips, assisting with workload statistics. Accurately and in a timely manner fill unit dose cart, floor stock, medication orders, and deliver to patient care areas to ensure availability of ordered drugs and supplies. Demonstrate knowledge in the use and stocking of automated medication cabinets. Accurately prepare IV admixtures using sterile technique. Prepare prescriptions for pharmacist review and dispensing accurately and in a timely manner. Accurately compound specialty items. Pre-package and label bulk medications for unit dose/unit of use dispensing with computer and associated equipment. Check floor stock and pharmacy stock for outdates, overstock, and proper storage on a monthly basis to ensure the use of high-quality medications. Maintain cost-effective inventory of bulk items, utilizing soon to expire items quickly, and decreasing overstock of inventory. Demonstrate technical skill level in utilizing a variety of pharmaceutical competencies including calculations, aseptic technique, and cytotoxic drug properties. Floating may be required to any location within sixty miles of the original assignment or identified float zone. Float assignments may include duties outside of original assignment job requirements in accordance with policy.
