Location: Butler Acres Elementary School
Schedule: 3 hrs/day, 190 days/year; 8:30am - 11:30am
Potential reduction hours due to Wednesday early release, early dismissals for parent conferences, holidays, and last day of school; reduction hours subject to change. Job assignment and/or building assignment are subject to change based on program needs determined by the district.
Temporary position is one created by the District for a minimum period of more than thirty (30) consecutive work days up to a maximum of the remainder of the current school year (2024/25) only.
Pay Range: PSE 1 Salary Schedule

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Work with individuals and/or groups of hearing-impaired students on assigned tasks
- Assist the general and/or special education staff in maintaining the necessary records
- Actively participate with implementation of the educational program of hearing-impaired students
- Assist in daily hygiene activities, including personal care (toileting, grooming, etc) for hearing-impaired students, if needed
- Supervise hearing-impaired students in the cafeteria, classroom, on school grounds and/or in the community, as needed
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
- Assist in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations, and board policies
- Must have regular and consistent attendance
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Previous experience or training in working with hearing-impaired students preferred
- Demonstrated fluency in American Sign Language and knowledge of signed English in a variety of grade levels, subject and ability levels from preschool through 12th grade
- Demonstrated ability to translate subject matter content (e.g. reading, math, written language) into ASL for hearing-impaired students
- Ability to uphold board policies and follow administrative procedures
- Demonstrated awareness of developmental stages and the unique individuality of children and the ability to set appropriate expectations for individual students
- Demonstrated awareness and appreciation of diversity among individual students and the ability to set appropriate expectations for individual students
- Demonstrated ability to efficiently operate all commonly used office equipment such as typewriter, computer, copier, calculator, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with teachers, parents, staff members and hearing-impaired students
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to participate in classroom activities and instructional responsibilities as assigned by classroom teacher(s) and/or special education staff to assist hearing-impaired students
- Demonstrated ability to effectively supervise hearing-impaired students in all school areas
- Demonstrated ability to work accurately with student records and data collection
- Demonstrated ability to be a self-motivator towards assigned duties
- Demonstrated ability to handle confidential matters appropriately and ethically
- Willingness to participate in in-service offerings or local workshops
- Demonstrated ability to work independently under the direction of the classroom teacher(s) and/or special education staff while, accepting direction and constructive criticism
- Must be able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing and be proficient in mathematics
- Demonstrated ability to work as a team member and be able to project a positive, friendly, and caring attitude toward others
- Must have physical ability to lift, position and/or transfer students (with assistance as may be required) up to 21 years of age
- Neat, clean personal appearance and personal traits that make him/her a good role model for students; work apparel should be appropriate for a professional and safe work environment
EDUCATION:
High school diploma and/or equivalent; prior job-related experience
