Work Shift Job Description The LPN provides patient/family-centered care, acting as a partner and adviser, assists and supports patients and families to optimally manage their healthcare, respecting their culture and values, individual needs, health goals, and treatment preferences. The LPN applies critical reasoning and astute clinical judgment to expedite appropriate care and treatment, especially given that the patient may be present with complex problems or potentially life-threatening conditions. The LPN uses critical thinking in clinical problem-solving relative to the scope of practice, knowledge, competency, and experience. The LPN assists medical staff with preparation, examination, and procedures, including interviewing/screening patients to obtain personal data and chief complaint, documentation for records, and vital signs. The LPN performs telephone and in-person screenings. The LPN participates in recording and reporting responsibilities; documents findings relevant to the patient's healthcare status or plan of care, documents accurately and consistently in accordance with approved policies/procedures. The LPN prioritizes and documents patient incoming phone calls, as assigned, regarding medications, medical conditions, and reviews with providers as needed for orders or changes. The LPN cleans and stocks examination rooms and/or other supply areas. The LPN documents all patient care delivered in the medical record according to the medical center policy.
Minimum Education and Experience: The LPN must graduate from a recognized Licensed Practical Nursing program and be licensed as an LPN within the state of South Carolina or a compact state. One year of LPN experience is preferred. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA-recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider. Pediatric experience is highly preferred.

The LPN must be able to perform job functions while sitting. The LPN must be able to perform job functions while walking. The LPN must be able to climb stairs. The LPN must be able to work indoors. The LPN must be able to work outside in temperature extremes. The LPN must be able to work from elevated areas. The LPN must be able to work in confined/cramped spaces. The LPN must be able to perform job functions from kneeling positions. The LPN must be able to bend at the waist. The LPN must be able to twist at the waist. The LPN must be able to squat and perform job functions. The LPN must be able to perform 'pinching' operations. The LPN must be able to perform gross motor activities with fingers and hands. The LPN must be able to perform firm grasping with fingers and hands. The LPN must be able to perform fine manipulation with fingers and hands. The LPN must be able to reach overhead. The LPN must be able to perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders. The LPN must be able to fully use both legs. The LPN must be able to use lower extremities for balance and coordination. The LPN must be able to reach in all directions. The LPN must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs unassisted. The LPN must be able to lift/lower objects 50 lbs from/to floor from/to 36 inches unassisted. The LPN must be able to lift from 36' to overhead 25 lbs. The LPN must exert up to 50 lbs of force. Examples include: To transfer a 100 lb patient that cannot assist in the transfer requires 50 lbs of force. For every 100 additional pounds, assistance will be required from another healthcare worker. 20 lbs of force are needed to push a 400 lb patient in a wheelchair on carpet. 25 lbs of force are required to push a stretcher with a patient with one hand. The LPN must maintain 20/40 vision, corrected, in one eye or with both eyes. The LPN must see and recognize objects close at hand or at a distance. The LPN must match or discriminate between colors. The LPN must determine distance/relationship between objects; depth perception. Good peripheral vision capabilities are required. The LPN must maintain hearing acuity, with correction. The LPN must perform gross motor functions with frequent fine motor movements. The LPN must deal effectively with stressful situations. The LPN must work rotating shifts. The LPN must work overtime as required. The LPN must work in a latex-safe environment. The LPN must maintain tactile sensory functions. The LPN must be qualified physically for respirator use, initially and as required.
