MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Develop and implement initiatives to foster an appropriate patient safety culture based on transparency, accountability without punitive measures, staff engagement, and collaboration. Promote family-centeredness and patient advocacy. Provide data-driven guidance to improve quality, safety, and best practices throughout the Department of Pediatrics. Continuously evaluate and improve the program based on internal needs and external regulatory standards. Coordinate activities related to accreditation, collaborating with inpatient and outpatient leadership to ensure readiness. Establish annual program plans and provide leadership for their implementation and evaluation. Oversee and mentor providers involved in Quality and Performance Improvement Projects in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Work with clinical leaders on pediatric care pathway development to promote best practices and reduce unnecessary variability. Participate in Geisinger and JWCH committees and meetings to represent pediatric quality, safety, and best practice issues. Collaborate with GHS committees, informatics, risk management, and executive leadership to coordinate root cause analysis of patient safety events and ensure implementation of action plans. Coordinate organizational responses to regulatory standards related to patient safety, including the Joint Commission National Patient Safety Goals. Provide leadership in Safety and Quality education for learners at all levels. Assist with research related to quality, safety, and best practices within the Department of Pediatrics. COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS Strong understanding of team dynamics, process, and safety science. Ability to analyze clinical informatics and collaborative data related to pediatric quality and safety. Model professionalism, collaboration, and develop high-functioning teams. Commitment to improving pediatric care quality and safety while reducing unnecessary variation and inefficiency. Ability to foster a positive work environment through mutual support and cooperation. Proficiency in performing gap analyses, identifying process improvements, and developing workflows. Fluent in data management programs and project management software. Excellent written, oral, and presentation skills, including large-group presentations. Position Details
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES MD/DO with current license. Minimum of five years of clinical experience. Experience in designing, implementing, and analyzing problem-solving strategies. Experience with project management, process improvement, and change management. Additional education in Quality and Safety science (e.g., IHI courses, AHRQ education) is highly desired. Prior leadership experience with a proven record of implementing change in complex environments preferred.
