Have you ever wondered how to get your start in the Brewing Industry? This is it! Mare Island Brewing Co. in Vallejo, CA is searching for a Production Assistant to add to our ranks.
Our Coal Shed Brewery is located on the waterfront on the former Mare Island Naval Shipyard. Opened in 2017, we transformed this historic Navy coal shed into an 8,000 sq. ft brewery, taproom, and event space.
We brew on a 15bbl Prospero brewhouse and 1bbl Blichmann pilot system. In August 2020, we installed a brand-new CODI 6-head counter- pressure filling canning line with depalletizer and in-line labeler. We have an awesome, tight-knit and dedicated production team. Our third retail taproom location opened in June 2021, and we are self-distributed throughout the Bay with over 375 current and active accounts.
The Production Assistant position at Mare Island Brewing Co. has plenty of room for growth. It is also important that the role maintain a high level of communication with the Lead Brewer and Ownership on daily operations. As noted below, work will include packaging, cellar work, and sanitation practices administered at the highest standard in order to meet production goals.
Qualifications:
- The right candidate will have a strong work ethic and strong desire to continuously learn professional brewing processes, equipment, and techniques
- Mechanically inclined, process driven a plus
- Ability to work up to 40 hours/week
- Ability to quickly learn and understand packaging practices and procedures
- Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills
- Ability to operate heavy machinery including but not limited to a forklift, scissor lift, hand truck and pallet jack
- Ability to safely handle various types of chemicals
- Ability to adhere to safety practices and requirements at all times
- Willingness to participate in festivals and other promotional events while representing the brand and brewery in a professional manner
- Ability to stand for long periods of time
- Ability to lift and move heavy objects up to 175lbs
- Ability to repeatedly lift up to 55 pounds
- Ability to work in a variety of temperatures ranging from 40F-110F
- Ability to climb on ladders
- Desire to continue to learn and grow
Duties and Responsibilities:
- All elements of cellar operations
- All elements of packaging operations to ensure efficient performance and to maintain the highest quality standard of packaged beer
- Execute all cleaning and sanitation of tanks and kegs
- Harvesting and proper yeast handling
- Dry hopping tanks up to 30bbls
- Milling in batches
- CIP/SIP of cellar vessels, canning line, and brewhouse vessels
- Rack beer into kegs as directed
- Regularly clean and maintain all cooperage
- Assist in organization of all brewing related material
- Appropriately follow all Standard Operating Procedures
Compensation:
- $18-$20/hr Depending on Experience
