Endurance is developing modular seafloor geothermal power plants that harness the vast thermal energy beneath the ocean floor to provide gigawatts of clean, reliable energy. We're addressing the critical power bottleneck facing AI infrastructure development while creating a path toward energy independence and decarbonization across the globe.
Backed by premier venture capital firms including First Round Capital and Point72 Ventures, our exceptional founding team includes veterans from SpaceX (Dragon and Starship programs) and Neuralink, with specialized expertise in complex thermal and fluid systems.
We're seeking a hands-on Ocean Operations Engineer to lead our subsea deployment operations, where you'll orchestrate complex offshore campaigns that install and maintain our revolutionary seafloor power generation systems.
The Role
As an Ocean Operations Engineer at Endurance, you'll be the operational backbone of our subsea deployments, coordinating everything from ROV operations and drilling campaigns to vessel logistics and equipment recovery. You'll work at the intersection of mechanical engineering and marine operations, translating our cutting-edge technology into successful real-world installations on the ocean floor. This role demands both technical expertise and the scrappy, get-it-done mentality essential to executing complex operations in one of Earth's most challenging environments.
You'll lead end-to-end deployment campaigns, from initial planning and equipment preparation through offshore execution and post-deployment analysis. Working closely with our engineering and geology teams, you'll ensure our geothermal systems are successfully installed, commissioned, and maintained across diverse marine environments worldwide. Your operational leadership will be critical as we scale from prototype deployments to commercial-scale installations.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and execute complex subsea deployment operations for geothermal power systems using ROVs, drilling equipment, and specialized marine vessels
Coordinate offshore campaigns including vessel charter, equipment mobilization, and crew logistics across global deployment sites
Lead ROV operations for seafloor site preparation, equipment installation, system commissioning, and ongoing maintenance activities
Manage subsea drilling operations including ROV-deployed drill systems, wellhead installations, and completion activities
Develop operational procedures and safety protocols for novel subsea equipment and installation techniques
Interface with vessel crews, ROV pilots, marine contractors, and offshore personnel to ensure safe and efficient operations
Troubleshoot mechanical and operational challenges in real-time during offshore campaigns
Design and specify marine equipment including lifting systems, subsea tooling, and deployment hardware
Coordinate with regulatory agencies and marine authorities for permitting and operational compliance
Manage project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation for multiple concurrent deployment campaigns
Build relationships with marine contractors, vessel operators, and offshore service providers
Establish scalable operational frameworks and best practices as deployment volume increases
Lead post-deployment analysis and lessons learned to continuously improve operational efficiency
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Marine Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or related technical discipline
5+ years of hands-on experience in offshore operations, subsea engineering, or marine project management
Proven track record managing ROV operations, subsea installations, or offshore drilling campaigns
Strong mechanical engineering background with experience in marine equipment design and operations
Demonstrated project management skills with ability to coordinate complex, multi-stakeholder operations
Experience working with marine contractors, vessel crews, and offshore service providers
Ability to thrive in high-pressure, time-sensitive environments with dynamic operational requirements
Strong problem-solving skills and comfort making critical decisions with incomplete information
Excellent communication and leadership abilities for managing diverse offshore teams
Willingness to travel extensively for offshore campaigns and deployment operations
Preferred Skills
Direct experience with ROV-deployed drilling systems, subsea wellhead installations, or seafloor equipment deployment
Background in offshore oil and gas, marine renewables, or deep-sea mining operations
Familiarity with subsea intervention techniques, remotely operated tools, and underwater construction methods
Experience with marine vessel operations including dynamic positioning, crane operations, and deck logistics
Knowledge of maritime regulations, offshore safety protocols, and international waters operations
Proficiency with project management tools and offshore operational planning software
Understanding of subsea power systems, umbilicals, or underwater electrical connections
Experience with harsh environment operations in deep water or extreme weather conditions
Certification in offshore safety training (BOSIET, HUET) or marine operations
Hands-on experience with mechanical systems troubleshooting and field repairs
Global Fieldwork : Travel to fascinating deployment sites along oceanic ridges in locations like the Pacific Northwest, Hawaii, Iceland, Japan, New Zealand, and the Azores
Hands-on Experience : Lead sea trials and deployment operations in partnership with leading oceanographic institutions
Cutting-Edge Development : Work with technology that spans high-power electronics, marine systems, and clean energy
Impact-Driven Work : Help solve one of the world's most pressing challenges - clean, reliable power generation
Competitive Compensation : Comprehensive salary and equity packages
Benefits : Vision, Dental, Health insurance coverage
Dive Certification : Company-sponsored recreational dive certification
PTO : Unlimited (with advanced notice)
