Job Title: Maintenance Specialist
Duration: 3 to 6 months contract
Work Location: Houston, TX, and North Dakota
Job Summary: We are seeking a highly skilled Maintenance Specialist to join our multi-disciplinary team supporting a comprehensive Material Master (MM) data cleanup and enrichment project for an oil and gas company. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in maintenance and reliability engineering, particularly in the oil and gas industry, and will work closely with client subject matter experts to ensure the quality and accuracy of the clean and enriched material master data.
Project Background: An oil and gas company is initiating a comprehensive Material Master (MM) data cleanup and enrichment project. This initiative aims to enhance the quality of material master data across all assets, addressing significant operational, procurement, and materials management challenges caused by poor MM data quality
Key Responsibilities:
Materials Management Expertise:
- Collaborate with materials management experts on a large-scale material master data cleanup project
- Demonstrate deep understanding of UNSPSC materials classification, BOM structures, and MRO spare parts management.
Maintenance and Reliability Engineering:
- Validate technical specifications and help identify spare parts and alternates.
- Provide expertise in common MRO mechanical, electrical, and instrumentation items.
- Validate technical specifications from a maintenance/reliability perspective
- Identify critical attributes needed for proper part identification
- Review material compatibility with operational equipment
- Support identification of duplicate/obsolete materials
- Verify alternative parts technical equivalency
- Work with client maintenance SMEs to establish validation criteria
- Ensure material specifications align with operational needs
- Deep understanding of the materials, parts and services used in maintenance activities, including the ability to evaluate commodity specifications (ex: bearing specs)
Technical Cataloging:
- Define material specifications taxonomy levering international standards for the Oil & Gas industry.
- Enrich material descriptions, specifications, and attributes according to industry standards.
- Participate in client technical interviews to validate expertise.
Project Collaboration:
- Work closely with client subject matter experts throughout the project.
- Provide guidance on classification decisions, alternate part identification, specification standardization, and complex data validation scenarios.
Technical Review Sessions:
- Be available for regular technical review sessions with the client in the U.S. central time zone.
- Make informed decisions about material criticality, interchangeability, and technical equivalency.
Qualifications:
- 15+ years of proven experience in maintenance and reliability engineering within the oil and gas industry.
- Extensive experience with industrial mechanical, electrical and instrumentation equipment
- Deep understanding of spare parts requirements for critical equipment
- Experience with equipment reliability practices in oil & gas operations
- Familiarity with common MRO items in upstream operations
- Understanding of OEM specifications and equivalency parameters
- Strong understanding of materials classification, BOM structures, and spare parts management.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
- Experience with SAP and AI-assisted data cleanup tools is a plus.

The approximate annual base compensation range for this position is $65,000 to $70,000. The actual offer, reflecting the total compensation package plus benefits, will be determined by a number of factors which include but are not limited to the applicant’s experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities; geographic location; and internal equity
