The NYS Unified Court System is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Court Attorney-Referee to serve in the Fifth Judicial District Town and Village Courts and a Special Counsel to Justice Courts. This position offers the opportunity to work within a dynamic legal environment, where you will serve as a special referee, tasked with analyzing and resolving complex legal issues in civil and criminal cases. As a Court Attorney-Referee, you will play a crucial role in assisting the court by conducting hearings, preparing findings, and providing legal research and analysis across various types of cases.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assisting with legal and ethical issues involving Town and Village Court Justices.
- Advising on court operations and technology initiatives.
- Representing the district on audits of fiscal and operational practices.
- Overseeing Centralized Arraignment Parts.
- Monitoring training compliance.
- Candidate will be expected to take calls on nights and weekends.
- Knowledge of and experience with Town and Village Courts is preferred.
This position will be based in Onondaga County, but travel is required throughout the district and to attend County Magistrate meetings and conferences.
Qualifications: Admission to the New York State Bar and Three (3) years of service in the Associate Court Attorney title; or Eight (8) years of relevant legal experience gained after admission to the New York State Bar.
Salary: $130,061
