General Surgery, Trauma, and Orthopedics General Care Information The Orthopedic unit is a 30-bed unit that provides care to patients with a variety of orthopedic conditions including joint replacement, orthopedic oncology, and trauma. The Orthopedic unit is a surgical unit with a specialty in orthopedics, divided between planned and unplanned visits such as planned knee and hip replacements vs unplanned trauma patients. Expect to work in a fast-paced environment collaborating with an interprofessional team and contributing to excellent patient outcomes. The cornerstone to this unit is teamwork and professional growth! Responsibilities: The role of the professional clinical nurse is unique and essential to the care of the patient. The nurse demonstrates that unique and essential function through the framework for nursing practice. Advocate: Practices in accordance with the patient centered care model, develops an individualized age-specific culturally sensitive nursing plan of care, incorporates the role of patient advocate into the plan of care, uses a team approach to develop and achieve daily patient-centered individualized care goals, and promotes and strives to protect the health, safety, and rights of the patient. Clinical Expert: Advances clinical expertise, enhances skills, shares knowledge, demonstrates critical thinking, and evaluates and documents patient responses. Qualifications Required: Graduate of an NLN accredited school/college of nursing Baccalaureate degree in Nursing or higher Current State of Illinois, Registered Professional Nurse license Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR through American Heart Association Analytic ability (conceptual and quantitative) Oral, listening and written communication skills Strong human relation skills Preferred:
