The successful applicant should possess at a minimum the generalqualifications, plus abilities to: Work independently as a strategic thinker, with astrong business acumen, focusing on long-term growth and viability. Exhibit strong leadership and negotiation skills. Develop knowledge of water and wastewater systems,infrastructure planning, and financing. Demonstrate ability to build partnerships withgovernment entities, businesses, and stakeholders. Exhibit excellent communication and public speakingskills. Develop proficiency in financial modeling, GIS, andproject management tools. Be available in the absence of the ChiefUtilities Executive, represent the organization as required and/or needed. Within the first year, the successful applicant should learn and demonstrate: Strongunderstanding of Avon Lake Regional Water’s services, infrastructure, andstrategic goals. Familiaritywith regional economic development initiatives and how waterinfrastructure supports business growth. Comfortablerelationships with key stakeholders, including municipal officials,economic development agencies, and business leaders. Professionalpresentations to stakeholders regarding Avon Lake Regional Water’sservices and regional benefits. Fluency in trends ofeconomic development, infrastructure funding, and water utility expansionto support strategic decision-making. Articulation of abusiness development roadmap for Avon Lake Regional Water. Ability to work withinternal teams (engineering, finance, operations) to coordinatefeasibility studies and service expansion plans. Production of grantapplications and funding initiatives that enhance Avon Lake RegionalWater’s infrastructure capabilities. Ability to managemultiple business development initiatives simultaneously and meetdeadlines effectively. Demonstrateproblem-solving and critical thinking when addressing challenges relatedto water and wastewater service expansion. Ability to implementand follow the employer’s quality standards as required. The physical/mental demandsdescribed here are representative of the position to successfully perform theessential functions of the job. Ability to travel locally and regionallyfor client meetings, conferences, and business development activities. Strong analytical and problem-solvingskills to assess business opportunities, market trends, and regulatoryrequirements. High level of focus and attention todetail when developing proposals, reviewing contracts, and conductingresearch. Ability to manage multiple prioritiesand deadlines in a fast-paced environment with changing demands. Strong interpersonal and communicationskills, including the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders andnegotiate effectively. Resilience and adaptability to handlechallenges, shifting priorities, and complex decision-making processes. Strategic thinking and creativity toidentify innovative business development solutions and regional growthopportunities. This role requires a balance of independent initiative andcollaborative teamwork, as well as the ability to work under pressure whilemaintaining professionalism and sound judgment.
