Overview
Radiation Oncology Nurses are critical members of the healthcare team, providing expert medical care to patients undergoing treatment for cancer. As part of the Radiation Oncology team, under the general supervision of the Manager of Radiation Therapy/Director of Imaging Services and the Radiation Oncology Medical Director, these nurses work closely with radiation oncology physicians, physicists, radiation therapists, and other healthcare team members to provide the highest level of care. Radiation Oncology Nurses are responsible for assessing patient needs, providing patient education and support, administering medication, providing supportive care during and after radiation treatments, and managing potential side effects and complications of radiation therapy. The nurse practices in accordance with current established standards of care, The Nurse Practice Act, the Powers Health policies and procedures, and supports the mission and philosophy of Powers Health by providing the highest quality care in the most cost efficient manner, provides for the well-being of the community, services the needs of all people and demonstrates the values: dignity, compassionate care, community, quality and stewardship.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
: Current license to practice in the State of Indiana as a professional nurse. Bachelor's degree in Nursing, preferred. Minimum two years of current clinical experience in order to acquire a thorough knowledge of scientific principles of nursing; acquire a thorough knowledge of professional nursing standards; and, develop skill in nursing techniques and the ability to adapt techniques to individual patient needs. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care for adolescent, adult and geriatric patients/family served. Maintain CPR certification. Excellent attitude, interpersonal skills and communication abilities necessary to interact with patients, physicians and other hospital associates.
