Responsibilities:
Prepare medication orders by compounding or admixing medications under supervision.
Verify patient information and physician authorization for all orders.
Ensure insurance approval before admixing drugs.
Accurately and timely admix drugs according to department guidelines.
Calculate correct dosage volumes and convert between metric and apothecary equivalents.
Maintain the indigent patient drug program and conduct weekly counts of controlled drugs.
Keep current drug information and MSDS sheets up to date.
Properly dispose of materials used in mixing chemo and non-chemo IVs.
Clean the hood daily or as per policy and procedures.
Log and date all drugs used, performing monthly checks for outdates and other quality assurance activities.
Maintain accurate temperature logs and logs on protocol drugs and patient assistance drugs.
Document control of medications, including lot numbers.
Manage inventory control of medications, receiving and shelving them as needed.
Assist the lead admixture technician in ensuring adequate standard drug supplies.
Prepare labels, file, and handle billing.
Perform efficient data entry into pharmacy and admixture systems.
Order medication and supplies as directed.
Assist with cleaning and maintenance to minimize particle counts and improve sanitation.
Essential Skills:
Pharmacy Technician Certificate (CPhT)
IL Pharmacy Technician Certification
3-5 years of experience in mixing chemotherapy medication
Experience in compounding medication
Experience in oncology
Ability to lift 40 lbs
Work Environment
Scheduled hours from 8am-5pm or 9am-5:30pm. You will work part-time for a minimum of 16-24 hours per week and may occasionally be asked to cover full-time hours during PTO of other technicians. This role does not include weekends or holidays, providing a balanced work-life schedule!
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
