UPMC Northwest is seeking an experienced and compassionate Patient Care Technician (PCT) to join our fast-paced Emergency Department. Use your clinical skills to make a real impact, support patients in critical moments, and be part of a dedicated, high-performing team.
**Responsibilities:**
+ Performs core PCT duties including ADLs, transport, toileting, turning, vital signs, I&Os, weights, glucose checks, telemetry setup, and basic wound care. Supports HAC and PSI prevention (e.g., TEDs/SCDs), bladder scans, specimen collection, and "Ticket to Ride" process.
+ Maintains competency in advanced skills as needed, such as phlebotomy, EKGs, Foley and IV removal, and NG tube care.
+ Assists with patient procedures, therapies, and daily care; reports status changes and provides feedback to the RN.
+ Communicates effectively with patients, families, and care teams; demonstrates professionalism, cultural sensitivity, and a commitment to safety.
+ Supports unit operations by answering call lights, phones, passing trays, and transporting patients.
+ Documents care accurately; completes clerical tasks and performs duties in a timely, productive manner.
+ Adheres to all hospital policies, safety protocols, and infection prevention standards.
+ Seeks feedback, identifies learning needs, and participates in self-development and team improvement.
+ High school diploma or equivalent required.
+ One of the following:
+ At least 1 year of general healthcare experience, or
+ 6+ months as a UPMC Nursing Assistant/CNA with PCT competency achieved within 120 days, or
+ Completion of at least one clinical rotation.
+ Microcomputer experience preferred.
+ Strong oral and written communication skills required.
+ Medication access is limited to distribution to licensed nursing staff only.
Licensure, Certifications & Clearances:
+ CPR (AHA-approved) required within 30 days of hire.
+ ACLS preferred.
+ Act 31 Mandated Reporter Training within 90 days of hire or transfer.
+ CCM Training required within 60 days of hire and annually thereafter.
+ Required Clearances:
+ Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR
+ Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCM)
+ Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting
+ Act 33 (Child Abuse History Clearance)
+ Act 34 (Criminal Background Check)
+ Act 73 (FBI Fingerprinting Clearance)
