We are seeking an experienced Embedded Hardware Engineer to design, analyze, and develop embedded hardware to serve as Command and Data Handling (C&DH) as well as Guidance, Navigation and Control subsystems for our advanced space vehicles. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical or computer engineering. This role requires deep expertise in a wide range of processor types, digital signal processing, software/firmware, and test equipment.
Responsibilities
Design and develop electronic hardware, including component selection, schematic capture, analysis, simulation, and PCB/A layout.
Perform development unit assembly and programming and support flight unit assembly with the Avionics lab technicians.
Perform bench-level development, as well as flight-level qualification and acceptance testing.
Support Avionics systems engineers in development of system documentation, i.e., functional block diagrams, requirement, interface control documents, etc.
Work closely with systems engineers, thermal engineers, and avionics teams to integrate C&DH systems into overall spacecraft architecture.
Define and execute test plans, including functional, environmental, and qualification testing of power subsystems.
Ensure designs meet relevant NASA, ESA, and commercial spaceflight standards and requirements.
Lead root cause analysis and corrective actions for power system anomalies during development and mission operations.
Technical Leadership: Provide mentorship and technical guidance to junior engineers, supporting a culture of innovation and excellence.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's or master's degree in electrical engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum 8+ years of experience in the design and development of embedded systems for space applications.
Proficiency in embedded C for developing projects with micro-controllers.
Experience with Ethernet, CAN, RS422, I2C, SPI, UART and other communication protocols/standards.
FPGA hardware experience should include:
Extensive experience with VHDL and/or Verilog and TCL.
Linux driver development.
Experience with Xilinx architecture/tools.
Knowledge of DO-254 a plus.
Proficiency with analysis tools such as PSpice, MATLAB/Simulink, and electrical CAD software.
In-depth understanding of radiation effects, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), and thermal considerations in space environments.
Experience with power system testing, verification, and validation processes.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with lunar or deep-space embedded systems.
Knowledge of low-power design techniques for space missions.
Hands-on experience with high-reliability, fault-tolerant embedded systems for space applications.
