We are seeking a Senior Process Safety Engineer with strong experience in refining, chemical processing, or manufacturing environments. This individual will serve as a technical leader for the organization’s process safety initiatives—driving best practices, compliance, and risk reduction across operational sites.
Role Overview
As a Senior Process Safety Engineer, you will be responsible for shaping and executing the company’s process safety strategy. You’ll lead the development and implementation of corporate-level standards, site-specific procedures, and compliance programs aligned with OSHA PSM, EPA RMP, and relevant industry frameworks (API, NFPA, etc.). This is a hands-on, collaborative role that interfaces closely with engineering, operations, and HSE teams to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant plant performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and continuous improvement of corporate Process Safety Standards and site-level Procedures.
- Champion the implementation and facilitation of Process Hazard Analyses (PHAs), including HAZOP, LOPA, and SIL assessments.
- Oversee the Management of Change (MOC) process and ensure effective documentation, review, and closeout of safety-critical modifications.
- Conduct audits and assessments across facilities to evaluate compliance and drive improvement actions related to PSM, RMP, and internal protocols.
- Provide technical guidance on siting studies, risk assessments, and the application of process safety tools and methodologies.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to build a culture of safety awareness and proactive risk management.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
- 5–10 years of experience in process safety, PSM programs, or chemical/refining operations. Candidates with greater experience are also encouraged to apply for consideration in a more senior capacity.
- Deep working knowledge of OSHA PSM, EPA RMP, and other process safety-related standards (API, NFPA, CCPS).
- Proficient in conducting and leading PHA, LOPA, QRA, and related risk assessments.
- Experience with process safety software tools and familiarity with safety instrumentation and relief systems.
- Strong understanding of chemical processes, plant operations, and safety-critical equipment.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
