Job Overview
The Process Improvement Engineer should have a passion and deep understanding of the manufacturing/operational processes within the plastics industry. The ideal candidate will possess a strong continuous improvement and plastics engineering background, excellent communication skills, and a proven track record of leading and achieving successful operational projects. This role will have accountability for each of the below tasks, but may specialize in one or more areas depending on the needs of the plant.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Build and maintain a continuous improvement culture that results in plant reliability, obtaining or exceeding production targets and employee involvement.
- Own the process of shepherding new products from concept to full scale production to help resolve operational issues.
- Monitor and maintain areas of our 5S process (including auditing boards and the coaching of 5S area team leaders or plant personnel on the importance of driving change and promoting operational accuracy).
- Lead and direct activities that support continuous improvement such as Gemba Walks, Kaizen Events, Issue Boards, and Standard Work.
- Apply principles of continuous improvement in workstation layout and workflow design, inventory management, supply management.
- Follow good manufacturing practices to ensure product safety.
- Oversee current employee and new hire training (including Six Sigma training).
- Encourage cooperation from fellow team members and incorporate valuable input into the process.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering
- 5-7 years of experience in plant operations and continuous improvement within the plastics manufacturing industry
- Six Sigma Black Belt (preferred)
**candidates will be required to show demonstrated knowledge of Lean principles and application of improvement tools.
