Position Type: Part-Time or Contract, Contingent on Federal Award Clearance: Not required, but DOE/DOD familiarity preferred Start Date: Q3 2025 (upon funding) Axyde Analytics is seeking a Battery Compliance SME to define and operationalize the technical acceptance thresholds for used lithium-ion batteries under federal reuse, resale, and export rules. This role is essential to the rule development layer of the VIREN-A adjudication engine within our Southeast Traceability Spine (STS) deployment. You’ll work directly with our policy adjudicators and field QA teams (Savannah, Kings Bay) to design rule logic that is both: • Technically realistic (based on actual battery condition and field evidence), and • Legally defensible (aligned to FEOC, 45X, 30D, FEMA, and DOE policy) This is a non-laboratory role: you will not inspect batteries — you’ll design the thresholds that govern whether an asset qualifies for a Certificate of Assurance (CoA). • Define the technical parameters for lawful battery acceptance under: • IRA Section 45X and 30D • Translate battery condition and traceability standards into enforceable rule logic • Advise on what field evidence (labeling, degradation markers, VIN, seal integrity) is acceptable for federal compliance • Collaborate with field teams to refine data capture protocols (e.g., for BMS logs, photo evidence, labeling issues) • Review edge cases where batteries present partial or conflicting evidence • Work with VIREN adjudicators to embed practical compliance rules in CoA issuance logic • Maintain awareness of DOE/FEMA/IRS policy updates impacting battery QA Required Qualifications • 5+ years in battery QA, testing, resale, or second-life validation • Experience validating or screening batteries for federal reuse, tax credits, or export • Understanding of lithium-ion form factors (LFP, NMC, etc.) and how to assess condition without lab testing • Knowledge of labeling, serial, or digital BMS data standards • Familiarity with FEOC, IRA tax credit eligibility, and DOE circularity policy • Strong ability to write practical rules: “If seal is intact + VIN matches + origin is known, qualify” • Former battery QA lead at circularity firm (e.g., Redwood, Li-Cycle, Ascend, Retriev) • Battery compliance manager at EV recycling or resale organization • Consultant to DOE or FEMA on emergency energy asset validation • Operations lead from BESS/BMS provider with export eligibility experience • No patience for fluff – you know how fraud happens in battery resale • Can spot when a battery shouldn’t move — even if the paperwork looks clean • Comfortable writing rules that others will use to make legal decisions This position is contingent upon federal award under our STS deployment package.
