$140,000.00/yr - $240,000.00/yr Req154918 Position Purpose
As a Software Engineer Manager, you will be responsible for managing a team of functional configuration and software engineers that develops and manages software specifically for Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) and Warehouse Execution Systems (WES). This includes configuring Manhattan WMS, writing custom code to extend WMS, logic and execution related to automation including order streaming, goods-to-person, and task and labor optimization, ensuring effective integration between the two systems to enhance operational efficiency. You will have the opportunity to contribute to the products we create and help grow the next generation of engineering talent. In addition, you will be given the chance to work with our most strategic warehouse automation vendors to ensure that 3rd party tools and applications are readily available to all product teams that are interested in using them. Key Responsibilities
Delivery & Execution: Collaborates and pairs with product team members (UX, engineering, and product management) to create secure, reliable, scalable software solutions. Documents, reviews and ensures that all quality and change control standards are met. Writes custom code or scripts to automate infrastructure, monitoring services, and test cases. Works with vendors and partners for the successful implementation of critical tooling and platforms. Creates meaningful dashboards, logging, alerting, and responses to ensure that issues are captured and addressed proactively. Contributes to enterprise-wide tools to drive destructive testing, automation, and engineering empowerment. Evaluates new technologies for adoption across the enterprise. Participates in and leads review board sessions to drive consistency across the enterprise. Fills in on product teams for engineers who are out of the office. Experience leveraging Agentic AI approaches to build autonomous workflows that improve warehouse efficiency (e.g., dynamic task allocation, order streaming, routing, and labor optimization). Support & Enablement: Fields questions from engineers, product teams, or support teams; monitors tools and participates in conversations to encourage collaboration across product teams; provides application support for software running in production; acts as a technical escalation point for engineers on the team. People: Provides leadership, mentoring, and coaching to Software Engineers; attracts, retains, and develops top talent; conducts annual and mid-year reviews; fosters collaboration across product teams; promotes modern software development practices; guides team members in strategy, analysis, and execution; participates in learning activities. Learning: Learns new technologies and best practices; builds relationships with technology leaders at other companies to learn best practices and solutions. Direct Manager/Direct Reports
Typically reports to the Software Engineer Sr. Manager, Technology Director or Sr. Director. Travel Requirements
Typically requires overnight travel 5% to 20% of the time. Physical Requirements

Located in a comfortable indoor area; any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable. Minimum Qualifications
Must be eighteen years of age or older. Must be legally permitted to work in the United States. Mastery of an object oriented programming language (preferably Java). Mastery of a modern scripting language (preferably Python). Preferred Qualifications
5-7 years of relevant work experience. Deep understanding of warehousing and logistics and how software impacts warehouse operations. Deep experience in configuring Manhattan Associates WMOS (version 2019) and LMS. Experience in Warehouse Management Systems and leading teams through greenfield installations, upgrades, and enhancements for mechanized distribution centers. Experience developing custom software to extend WMS, sortation, merge, goods-to-person, order streaming/work release, and warehouse execution systems. Experience applying Agentic AI frameworks to orchestrate autonomous workflows. Knowledge of reinforcement learning, planning algorithms, or autonomous agents for optimization. Experience leading teams building AI copilots or autonomous task agents. Mastery of Python and modern web frameworks (e.g., Ruby on Rails, Spring MVC, Node.js). Mastery of writing SQL queries and modern product development processes and pipelines. Strong troubleshooting, system monitoring, and log analysis skills. Ability to understand complex systems quickly and guide junior team members. Experience managing vendor relationships and translating strategy to execution. Minimum Education
