Role description: Arcadis is seeking a Principal Environmental Planner to take on a leadership role to support environmental planning for utility infrastructure maintenance and repair programs for our Northern California utility clients. Our California Energy Transition team is seeking an experienced environmental planner/project manager with at least ten years’ experience to join our team of multidisciplinary planners, biologists, and cultural resource specialists. In this role, you will support technical planning guidance, maintain and develop positive client relationships, and manage projects on schedule and within budget.

Role accountabilities: As a Principal Environmental Planner, you will apply your technical and business knowledge to develop creative, effective, and economical solutions for project issues. You will lead our California planning team, interacting with project managers, directors, and principals, as part of an interdisciplinary environmental team. You will supervise, train, and mentor mid-level and junior staff.
You should be a self-starter with a solid understanding of state and federal permit requirements, familiarity with local jurisdiction and California agency notification requirements, and the ability to develop strategic planning and permitting strategies for large projects. Conducting or leading site reviews may also be required.
You will utilize your excellent technical writing and communication skills and attention to detail to review project documents and provide guidance.

Bachelor's degree in Environmental Planning, Urban Planning, Geography, Environmental Science, or related field
Minimum of 15 years of experience in the environmental field, with at least 12 years as a consultant
Experience preparing CEQA and NEPA documents, including Initial Studies and Environmental Assessments
Knowledge of California and federal resource agency permit requirements, including USFWS, CDFW, USACE, California Coastal Commission, and RWQCB/SWRCB, and understanding of local zoning and land use regulations
Experience in planning, permitting, and supporting infrastructure projects (utility, renewables, water, sewer, etc.)
Project management experience, including task management, client coordination, and financial oversight to ensure projects are completed on time and within budget
Preferred qualifications include a Master’s degree and experience with utility infrastructure siting, licensing, and environmental assessments.
