Summary About our opportunity: The City of Asheville is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Recreation Program Leader in the Parks & Recreation department. The Parks & Recreation department offers diverse programs and facilities to enrich the quality of life for Asheville residents through recreational and cultural activities. The Recreation Program Leader assists in planning, developing, and implementing indoor and outdoor recreation program activities and events for assigned districts or parks and supports full-time staff with facility supervision. What you'll be doing: Organize, prioritize, and assign work activities to meet objectives and ensure adequate coverage. Develop and oversee employee work schedules and manage assigned volunteers. Assist in planning, developing, marketing, and supervising recreational activities, events, field trips, and classes. Coordinate set up and break down of program activities and events. Provide information, direction, and assistance to participants, staff, and volunteers. Ensure all activities comply with department policies, safety standards, and procedures. Conduct preparation sessions and training; maintain training materials and handouts. Provide customer service by responding to inquiries, complaints, and problem resolution. Perform light maintenance duties including cleaning and facility appearance upkeep. Maintain documentation, records, and reports related to program operations. Operate computers and equipment necessary for daily functions. Benefits:

Applicants who meet the following minimum requirements or have comparable experience and/or education will be considered:
High School Diploma
plus
five years
of experience in implementing recreation programs,
OR Associate degree
in recreation or sports programming or a related field plus
three years
of experience in implementing recreation programs. Must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license. Performance aptitudes:
Ability to evaluate data and exercise discretion in problem-solving. Ability to lead a work unit, coordinate activities, and review work quality. Competence in operating equipment, tools, and materials needed for the role. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. Ability to exercise judgment and independent decision-making in varied situations. Physical requirements:
Ability to perform light physical tasks such as stooping, kneeling, crouching, and lifting up to 20 pounds. Sensory ability to perceive colors, sounds, and communicate effectively.
