JOB SUMMARY
The Sustainability Engineer is responsible for project origination, technical support, oversight, and guidance within the ESS RENU retrofit and renewable energy infrastructure program. This role encompasses staff engineering and project management responsibilities, focusing on technical and techno-economic evaluations to identify and develop profitable projects. The engineer will also monitor project progress, report performance to customers, and contribute to enhancing the company's technical capabilities. While this position is part of a team of project engineers, it requires self-motivation and the ability to work independently when provided with daily direction.

EcoSmart Solution (ESS) is a green energy services provider (Green ESP), specializing in both new development and the existing built environment. The firm designs and delivers scalable decarbonization solutions for real estate owners and developers. By combining innovative geothermal infrastructure with a comprehensive suite of distributed energy resources, ESS aims to help create future-proofed communities. ESS evaluates a building’s energy consumption for existing buildings, identifying where efficiencies can be applied to reduce the carbon footprint significantly.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, architectural, or electrical engineering required.
- 2+ years’ experience in building engineering.
- Interest in pursuing a professional license.
- Experience with building controls or building operations is a plus.
- Experience with industrial/warehouse design and construction is a plus.
- Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office and data analysis techniques.
- Experience with energy modeling and building systems operation is required.
- Working knowledge of basic economic evaluation methods and concepts is required.
- Able to multitask within a cross-functional team.
- Willing and able to learn and apply sustainability, energy, HVAC, and ESG topics.
- Travel to US project sites required.
- Able to successfully manage multiple projects concurrently.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Interface with a broad range of client contacts, including real estate asset managers, owners, developers, lenders, etc.
- Analyze energy efficiency retrofit projects in multifamily, commercial, and/or industrial buildings to develop decarbonization plans that are cost-neutral or accretive based on sound technical and economic support.
- Analyze opportunities to provide the ESS Geothermal, battery storage, and solar infrastructure to new construction opportunities.
- Perform utility bill and rate evaluation and analysis.
- Collaborate with teammates to perform due diligence on prospective deals and projects regarding project schedule, funding, and capitalization.
- Evaluate optimal envelope, mechanical system, electrical, plumbing, and renewable energy upgrades options for projects with energy and cost savings projections.
- Develop installation budget projections for defined scope.
- Provide on-site technical oversight of ongoing projects as needed; coordinate with the site construction manager, site GC, engineer of record, subcontractors, and others as needed to ensure projects meet technical requirements.
- Utilize data visualization tools to support the business model.
- Research and monitor local market conditions and their positive implications for project selection and investment strategy, including market acceptance of energy projects, incentives/rebates, and other opportunities.
- Coordinate external and internal project partners, including communication, meeting preparation, and presentation.
- Ensure effective communication with customers.
- Execute all assigned projects independently and with high standards.
- Perform general office tasks required for the office's day-to-day operations.
- Handle confidential material and information with discretion.
- Work collaboratively with the entire ESS team.
- Other related projects and assignments as required.
- Report to the Senior Sustainability Project Engineer.
