This is a start-up opportunity. We have built the platform and are now building our team in preparation for a Fall launch. profitably manage inventory, expand their reach, and lower customer acquisition costs. We expect to launch our first vertical, apparel, within the next six months. We are seeking a
Head of Marketing
to lead our
customer acquisition, retention marketing, and content strategy.
This role is perfect for a
strategic yet hands-on marketer
who thrives in a startup environment and understands how to drive
both new customer growth and long-term retention. Position Overview: Pre-launch, the
Head of Marketing
will focus on
brand positioning, merchant-facing marketing, and early customer acquisition strategies.
This includes developing our
brand voice, crafting marketing assets, and laying the foundation for post-launch growth and retention. Post-launch, this role will
own full-funnel marketing , driving
customer acquisition, retention, and lifetime value (LTV)
through a mix of content, email, SMS, paid media, and community-building efforts. Responsibilities: Pre-Launch Responsibilities (Part-Time, Equity-Based): Define and refine Cloud + Mortar’s brand voice, positioning, and messaging. Develop marketing assets
to support merchant onboarding and go-to-market efforts. Create retailer-facing content
(decks, website copy, case studies) to attract merchant partners. Lay the foundation for our consumer-facing marketing and social media strategy. Develop a pre-launch content and retention strategy
to build engagement, waitlists, and loyalty before launch. Collaborate with the CEO and Head of Sales
to define early acquisition and retention strategies. Post-Launch Responsibilities (Full-Time, Paid Role): Customer Acquisition & Growth: Oversee all digital marketing efforts, including paid acquisition (Meta, Google, TikTok, etc.), SEO, email, and affiliate marketing. Develop and execute content strategy
to build brand awareness and drive organic traffic. Manage and optimize customer acquisition funnels
to improve conversion rates. Scale and manage social media, email, and SMS marketing efforts
to engage and acquire new customers. Retention & Lifecycle Marketing: Develop and execute retention marketing strategies
to maximize customer lifetime value (LTV). Own email & SMS marketing , creating targeted campaigns that drive engagement, repeat purchases, and loyalty. Create content for retention marketing —including newsletters, loyalty offers, post-purchase flows, and re-engagement sequences. Monitor and optimize customer engagement and retention metrics
to drive repeat sales. Leverage data and insights
to personalize marketing efforts and improve retention. Develop loyalty programs, exclusive content, and incentives
to keep customers engaged with the platform. Brand & Community Growth: Drive PR, influencer partnerships, and brand collaborations
to grow awareness and credibility. Build a community-driven marketing approach —leveraging user-generated content, referral programs, and organic brand advocates. Collaborate with product and sales teams
to align marketing efforts with merchant success. Requirements: 5+ years in marketing, growth, or lifecycle marketing
within eCommerce, DTC brands, or marketplaces. Proven experience scaling both customer acquisition and retention strategies. Deep knowledge of digital marketing (SEO, SEM, email, SMS, paid social, affiliate marketing). Experience developing lifecycle marketing programs, including email, SMS, and loyalty strategies. Strong understanding of content marketing and its role in both acquisition and retention. Proficiency in Shopify, analytics tools, and performance marketing platforms. Exceptional communication and leadership skills. Startup experience preferred—must be adaptable and comfortable in a fast-moving environment. Why Join Us?
