Description
We exist so families can get better together. Each night, we keep 181 families close to the care and resources they need through six area Ronald McDonald Houses® and four Ronald McDonald Family Rooms®. Enabling families to stay close to their hospitalized child supports the health and well-being of the child and saves families more than $10 million in hotel and food costs each year. We also operate the Ronald McDonald Care Mobile® program, providing medical care to children in underserved areas. RMHC-CNI is an independent not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization.
The Shuttle Driver will provide safe, reliable, and courteous transportation for families staying at Ronald McDonald House near Loyola University Medical center to and from Shriner's Hospital for Children-Chicago. This role is critical in supporting the mission of keeping families close by ensuring they have dependable transportation during their time of need. Driver will be cross trained to help support families within the House as needed.
Part-time position,Hours: 5:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m., Monday through Friday
Essential Job Functions
- Safely operate a shuttle vehicle during scheduled hours (5:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m., Monday through Friday)
- Transport families between Ronald McDonald House and Shriner's Hospital
- Transport families between Ronald McDonald House and grocery stores
- Maintain cleanliness and basic upkeep of the shuttle vehicle (gas, maintenance, etc.)
- Ensure the safety of all passengers at all times
- Maintain accurate transportation logs and report any issues with the vehicle or schedule
- Provide friendly and compassionate service to all passengers
- Follow all traffic laws, organizational policies, and safety protocols
- Report any incidents or concerns to the Associate Director immediately
- Provide additional support to families in the House when time allows
- High school diploma or GED required
- Must hold a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL)
- Minimum of 2 years of professional driving experience preferred
- Experience working with families or in a healthcare hospitality environment is a plus
- Excellent driving record and familiarity with Chicago and surrounding areas
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to maintain composure and professionalism in emotionally sensitive situations
- Dependable and punctual
- Comfortable working early morning hours
- Primarily in a shuttle vehicle, with exposure to varying weather conditions while assisting passengers
- Interaction with families under emotional stress or medical hardship
- Must be able to sit for extended periods while driving
- Ability to assist passengers with limited mobility as needed
- Must be able to enter and exit the vehicle frequently
- Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds with or without accommodation
- Driving record verified through a motor vehicle report
- Ability to work a wheel chair lift
