The Research Statistician series includes positions primarily applying research and statistical methods to analyze socio-economic data, solve applied science problems, publish survey data, and conduct intensive research in fields like health and economics.
The Research Statistician I
serves as a trainee, learning research and statistical analysis techniques through on-the-job formal training, and performs other duties as required.
The Research Statistician II
assists senior statisticians on research projects or conducts studies independently, following defined objectives and methods, and performs related duties.
Legal Authorization to Work Requirement: The State of Hawaii requires all applicants to be U.S. citizens, nationals, permanent resident aliens, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment.
Minimum Qualifications: Applicants will be placed on the eligible list for all levels they qualify for.
Basic Education:
Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution, including three semester credit hours in statistics.
Specialized Experience:
Research Statistician I
- None required.
Research Statistician II
- Six months of professional research/statistical work involving survey planning, data analysis, and reporting.
Non-Qualifying Work Experience:
Work that involves processing numerical data without statistical methods, such as clerical work, drafting, arithmetic calculations, or simple data verification, does not qualify.
Driver's License:
Some positions require a valid driver's license at appointment, notably the DHHL vacancy.
Lift and Carry:
Ability to lift and carry objects of various weights may be required.
Substitutions:
Relevant substitutions as per the Minimum Qualification Requirements are allowed.
