Position description:
This six-day residential summer program is designed for girls in that care about how to personally make a difference. We will engage in readings and workshops, projects and outdoor activities that help us understand how we, as individuals, can make a meaningful difference in our world. On completion of the program, camp participants will receive one hour of elective college credit from Saint Mary's College. Applicants will be leading their groups throughout this campus experience and be acting as role models of Saint Mary's College taking part in research and analysis. They will learn practical leadership skills and team work.
Duties : Counselors will participate in approximately 10 hours of recruitment efforts during spring semester 2024. During Senior Week 2024, they will participate in training. During July, mentors will need to be on campus helping facilitate the institute from appx. July 21-26th. Throughout the semester students will meet for up to 15 hours to plan/facilitate follow up engagement activities for summer participants
Position qualifications:
Successful applicants will be Saint Mary's students (rising juniors through rising seniors) who can demonstrate leadership abilities, a commitment to engaged dialogue across difference, and the ability to listen well. Mentors should be reliable, able to maintain confidentiality, and open to welcoming and supporting participants from a range of backgrounds, viewpoints, and experiences. Preference given to applicants who have previously taken Sustainable Living Course or any of SMC Environmental Studies courses.
Room and board on campus will be provided during the training and institute dates.
