Job Summary: We are looking for a dependable and experienced Heavy Equipment Mechanic to join our mulch and compost yard team. This role requires hands-on experience working with loaders, grinders, and screening equipment. The right candidate will help keep our machinery operating efficiently and safely to support daily yard operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Diagnose, repair, and perform preventative maintenance on heavy equipment, including front-end loaders, tub/horizontal grinders, and screening machines.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems
- Maintain service logs, records, and inventory of parts.
- Coordinate with operations staff to schedule repairs and minimize downtime
- Follow all company safety procedures and environmental guidelines
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum 2 years of experience as a heavy equipment mechanic
- Strong working knowledge of loaders, grinders (e.g., Morbark, Vermeer), and screening systems.
- Ability to read and understand service manuals and schematics
- Welding and fabrication experience is a plus
- Own tools preferred but not required
- Valid driver's license
- Willingness to work in outdoor environments and varying weather
Working Conditions/Physical Requirements
- Sitting, Climbing, Balancing, Reaching, Standing, Walking, Lifting 50 lbs.,
- Exposure to various weather conditions, such as heat, cold, rain, or wind, depending on the season and location.
- Work may involve non-traditional hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, or even night shifts. Some jobs may require overtime or work during holidays.
- Tasks may require working in small, enclosed, or hard-to-reach spaces such as crawl spaces, attics, or underground areas.
- Some environments with dust, fumes, chemicals, or loud machinery, which may require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Example: exposed to dust, noise, and other environmental hazards.
- Operate or work near large machines and equipment.
- The worker is subject to hazards: Includes a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat, or exposure to bio-solids.
